Sheryl Marie Tedder was called back to the Lord on Sunday, May 26, 2024. She was born to Clemence Johnson and Shirley (Horr) Johnson in Beach North Dakota. She was the youngest of four children. Her parents and siblings, Larry, Loren, and Darleen moved to Miles City when she was a baby. Sheryl graduated from Custer County High School in 1964. She then graduated from Life Bible College in Los Angeles California in 1969 with a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Education.
While at Bible College, Sheryl met the love of her life, Harvey Tedder. Their first date was a hayride that Sheryl invited Harvey to attend. They dated for a short time until Sheryl graduated and returned to Miles City. Upon her return, she taught Kindergarten class and teacher training classes at Foursquare Church.
Two years later, in 1971, Harvey answered a calling to minister in Hardin Montana. Coincidentally Sheryl and Harvey both attended the same church rally not having talked in the two years since her leaving California. Harvey recognized her despite Sheryl wearing a blonde wig at the time. They again dated for several months before attending a Bible camp in Wyoming where Harvey proposed on a hill. They married in October 1971 and were married for nearly 42 years at his passing in 2013. Harvey’s nickname for Sheryl was Pebbles Diamond and her nickname for him was Hubby Bear.
Soon after they married, they moved to Washington to become pastors in a church. After six months in Washington, they returned to Miles City. In 1974 they moved to California to help minister churches. They ministered for twenty years before deciding to move back to Miles City for good.
The Harveys became neighbors and friends with Jamie, Kristy, Tori and Alex Ogolin when the Ogolins moved across the street from them in 2004. Their friendship grew over the years. When Harvey passed in 2013, the friendship took a new path. It was just explained as Sheryl adopted the Ogolins and they adopted her. Over the years Sheryl cheered Tori and Alex on at sporting events, attended each grand march, shared countless meals together, and was part of many family events and milestones. She was so looking forward to Alex’s June 8 wedding, however that was not in God’s plan.
Sheryl was always up for a drive no matter where her driver would take her. She enjoyed driving around looking at Christmas and Halloween decorations, stopping at Stockman Bank to visit Brenda, or getting a Frosty or DQ treats. She loved riding in the side-by-side as she could see out of the windows better these past few years as her stature shrunk but not her desire to go for a drive. Although she faced many doctor appointments as her health waned, she looked forward to going to Billings Clinic. She was treated like royalty by everyone there, what a blessing they all were to Sheryl. Her day would be complete if she got to see Mean Jean, Dr. Gardner and Andrea. Although everyone else involved had schedules, Sheryl would do whatever possible to extend the stay so she could visit.
An angel on earth for Sheryl was Ginger Mueller. Sheryl was blessed when Ginger began assisting with her daily living activities. Ginger’s weekly visits became something Sheryl looked so forward to. These visits which started as a scheduled hour morphed into laundry day on Wednesday and most of Thursday afternoon. Sheryl truly loved Ginger as family.
Her other special visitors include Don and Bev Ogolin, Jon and Cara Harris, Sarah Waarvik and Russel Murphy, and Kenny and Marissa Hardy. Sheryl loved these visits and visitors. What might start out as a brief visit to drop off some cookies could turn into a two-hour talk. Other special people in Sheryl’s circle were Charlotte Muri, Dr. Loendorf, the wonderful Meals on Wheels staff who always had time to talk to her when something was less than perfect with the lunch delivery, and her mail carriers. Thank all of you who took the time to treat Sheryl so well.
Sheryl was preceded in death by her husband Harvey, her sister and brother-in-law Darleen and James Barnes, and her sister-in-law Bernice Jevens of Canada.
She is survived by her adopted family Jamie and Kristy Ogolin, Tori Ogolin (Kai), Alex Ogolin and her fiancé’ Brandon Birkeland.
