Shirley (Reed) Marcy passed away peacefully on November 25, 2016 at her son’s home in Rosebud, Montana following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born April 20, 1929 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to James and Mildred (Hanna) Reed. When Shirley was a young girl she enjoyed playing catcher for a girls softball team. She attended school in Scranton, PA. In 1953 she married Francis “Bubs” Marcy. They spent most of their married life in Wyoming County, PA. and they were blessed with 2 sons, Reed Allen and Kim Hanna. Shirley and Bubs raised quarter horses and attended many horse shows and events. When their children were young they were 4-H leaders and over the years provided many nice project horses for 4-H kids.
Shirley also made a career as a beautician; she owned and operated “Shirley’s Patio of Beauty” out of her home near Tunkhannock, PA. After her retirement as a beautician she became interested in flying airplanes and in 1982 got her private pilot’s license.
Over the years Shirley both vacationed and lived part time in Florida. She was a Methodist and an active member in Meshoppen Chapter #70 order of the Eastern Star. She had a wonderful smile, twinkling blue eyes and loved to wear bright colored clothing. She could easily strike up a conversation with anyone, stranger or friend, and will be missed by many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and son Kim. She is survived by her son Reed, daughter-in-law Holley (Clarkin), and grandsons Frank Clarkin and Alex Reed.

I have only fun memories of Shirley while she was in Meshoppen and Tunkhannock. She was DDGM when I was Worthy Matron in OES. We went to Pittsburgh for our Grand Chapter, went to a lovely restaurant where she told the hostess that we were with Edie Adams (our WGM was Edie something else, but not Adams). We were immediately escorted to the best table in the house and Edie Adams never showed!!! She also introduced one of our candidates as Jackie Kennedy instead of Jackie ____. She never realized her error until after the meeting! She was just such fun. She put some red color on my hair once and it turned so quickly she had me under the faucet before I knew what happened – I wore red hair for quite some time 🙂 My mom and Shirley were also best of friends – as were all of Shirley’s acquaintances in this area. Fun – fun – fun – that was our Shirley. I send love and happy memories to you all. Please let us know when you have the memorial service here in Tunk.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We loved driving by Shirley and Bubbs house in Tunkhannock and they were sitting on the porch waving us to stop and it was always a warm welcome and fun visit. So sad to drive by and see it empty but the memories will live on. Wayne and Bubs were cousins Love the picture of Shirley in green she always said green was her color a very precious couple
