Shirley Ann Bishop passed away quietly at her home May 2, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was 88 years old.
Shirley was born December 31, 1935, in Great Falls, MT to Clyde and Esther Flynn. A New Years Eve baby was celebrated.
The family moved to Conrad where Shirley completed elementary and high school. Shirley then attended Eastern Montana College in Billings. After college, Shirley returned to Conrad where she worked at Pondera Abstract. She was a good dancer and she and her future husband spent the summer burning up the dance floors in Shelby. Shirley and Jim were united in marriage November 25, 1955, in the Lutheran Church in Conrad. The newlyweds then moved to Bozeman where Jim graduated from Montana State University. Shirley was a lifelong Bobcat fan and supporter. The family grew by 3 children. After graduation the family moved to Ekalaka. A fourth child was added to the family. After moves to Glendive and Circle the family settled in Miles City in 1969.
Shirley worked several years at Custer County High School as a secretary. She truly enjoyed the interaction with the educators and students. She was a proud Cowboy/Cowgirls Mom and fan. Shirley finished her working career in the Child Support Division of the State of Montana.
Shirley had many interests and hobbies she shared with family and friends. She was an avid gardener who had gorgeous flower beds. She also was an artisan of various crafts including sewing, crocheting, quilting, knitting, pottery, painting, cooking, baking, and more.
She was a woman dedicated to her role as homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. Shirley enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Shirley cherished Christmas time and made the holiday a memorable and joyous experience with delectable baked goods, over-sized Christmas tree, knitted stockings she made for all the grandkids, and ensuring that Santa Claus visited the kids on Christmas Eve.
Shirley was a member of Sage Riders and Range Riders.
The family wishes to thank and extend their appreciation to the staff of the Holy Rosary Hospice for their outstanding and compassionate care.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde & Eshter Flynn.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Jim, her brother Bill (Diane) Flynn, children Mike (Sandy) Bishop, Pam (Rich) Stone, Pat (Sue) Bishop, and Scott (Madonna) Bishop. She had 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

My sincere condolences to you all as you step into this loss. Shirley was so full of life, and one of those “extra moms” during high school years who offered encouragement and a big ole smile to go with it. As an adult, she always remembered me and we’d share a laugh as we’d catch up. Praying for you.
