Shirley Q. Red Boy

Shirley Q. Red Boy, age 85, of Poplar, MT

Funeral Service: Wednesday, September 12, 2007, 11:00 a.m. at Poplar Culture Center.

Interment with Military Honors: Friday September 13, 2007 at Riverside Cemetery, Brockton, MT.

Mr. Shirley Q. Red Boy, Wambdi Okiceta (War Eagle), age 85, of Poplar, Montana passed away Saturday, September 8, 2007 at the Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point.

Shirley was born October 5, 1921 in Brockton, MT to Harry and Josephine (Zahn) Red Boy. He married Rose Louise Small of Missouri at Glasgow, Mt. and they had two children, Sharon and George.He enlisted in the US Army Sept, 16, 1940 in an All Indian CO B 163rd. Infantry, the Sunset 41st. Div. stationed in Poplar, MT. It was the first Volunteer Army activated in Federal Service. Military awards consist of : 15 ribbons, Asiatic-Pacific Defense Medal with ribbon with 7 combat bronze battle stars (each represents each island taken) American Defense Medal with ribbon, World War II Victory Medal with ribbon, Combat Infantrymans Badge with rifle on blue medal, American Campaign Medal with ribbon, National Defense Medal with ribbon, Good Conduct Medal with ribbon, Oversea Army ribbon, Soldiers ribbon, Combat Action ribbon, NCO (Non-commission Officers ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Blues shoulder cord, Expedition ribbon. Many Military awards such as : Rifle Expert, Machine gun heavy water-cool, Light machine-gun, recoilless Rifle, carbine Rifle, Tank weapon, Hand-grenade, Bayonet and a Jungle Expert patch. He also received an American US Flag from Pres. Ronald Reagan, our 40th President 1981 to 1989.

Shirley was a Lifetime VFW Post #1755 Wolf Point, Lifetime DAV Chapter 10 Billings, Lifetime American Legion Post #61 Brockton and member in the Native American Veterans Association Wolf Point.

Shirley is survived by his daughter, Sharon Kay Red Boy and her family of Nebraska and his son George Red Boy and his family of California; he is also survived by the Smoker, Ironman, Boyd, Shield and Red Boy families of the Fort Peck Reservation.

His funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Poplar Cultural Center with cremation following as requested by Shirley. A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, September 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Brockton.
