We were blessed on May 25th,1937, when Shirley Ann Jackson was born. Now we are deeply saddened with the passing of Shirley Rolandson on April 28, 2024.
Shirley was born in Wolf Point. Her childhood was spent traveling through Montana following her parents’ job opportunities. She was joined by two siblings, Allen Jackson and Karen Jackson Fritz. When Shirley was in high school, the family settled in Wolf Point, where she graduated from high school in 1955.
Shirley met Ole (Arvid) Rolandson, in Circle when she was a freshman in 1952. After graduation they were married on October 8, 1955, in Circle. They lived in Ole’s parents’ basement to save money and buy a home. Together, they made their home in Circle and raised their 4 children: Laurie, Lynn, Greg, and Jere.
Rolandson Implement had been established in Circle and green was in their blood. Ole & Shirley spent countless hours building the business and Shirley always liked to go with Ole to meet his John Deere friends. John Deere Day was always a highlight. With the help of great friends, Shirley enjoyed planning and prepping the party and seeing all the customers.
For every football, basketball and baseball game, she was always there to support her children. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling and was pretty darn good. Thursday morning coffee with the ladies, playing bridge and golfing were favorite pastimes. As well as volunteering in the church and rummage sales. She taught us every board game and card game, her favorite being spite and malice and hearts….she always won!
She loved being a grandma and great grandma and loved all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She would rarely miss an away game and could always be found cheering in the gym. She made every attempt possible to see as many games, performances, graduations, confirmations, you name it. If she could be there, she was.
Ole and Shirley spent 69 years together traveling to many wonderful places. They traveled to Hong Kong, Mexico, Switzerland, and Rome just to name a few. Her favorite place to visit was Chicago to watch her beloved Cubs at Wrigley Field. She also enjoyed seeing the Cubs play at several other stadiums and Spring Training in Arizona.
Shirley was preceded by her mom and dad, Agnes and Lawrence Jackson and her brother Allan Jackson.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Ole, sister Karen, and sister-in-law Irene Jackson; her children Laurie Rodriguez, Lynn (Bernie) Harrington, Greg (Kim) Rolandson, and Jere (Amy) Rolandson. Her grandchildren, Nicole (JK) Brown, and Marc Rodriguez, Jase (Randi) Harrington, Kali (Nick) Meadors, Elise (John) Johnson, Allie Wanderaas, Braden Rolandson, Gavin Ueland, and Madison Ueland. Her great grandchildren, Lindee, Jahdyn, Trayce, Talyn, Wyatt, Liam, Ethan and Gavin.
Shirley’s family would like to thank the Circle MAF, Patti Wittkopp, Circle Ambulance, Sidney Medical Center, and St. Vincent’s Hospital, for taking great care of Shirley. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Circle MAF or the Circle Ambulance fund.
The vigil will be on Monday, May 6, with visitation from 4:00-6:00 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Circle. Rosary to follow. Shirley’s funeral mass will be on Tuesday, May 7, at 11:30 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial at Riverside Cemetery and a luncheon at Circle Country Market Banquet Room.

From the times she’d be sitting around the table with Agnes, Esther, and Virginia , to the annual Catholic rummage sale, to every Sunday Mass….she was always a joy to listen to.
