In Memory Of

Shirley Taylor, age 92, of Miles City

October 16, 1924 – February 26, 2017

Shirley Lee (O’Connell) Taylor, age 92, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2017 at the Friendship Villa in Miles City, Montana.

Shirley was born on October 16, 1924 in Moose Jaw, Canada. She lived with her family on Frenchman Creek north of Malta.  At the age of ten, she helped her father move their cattle across the Missouri River to their homestead north of Jordan in the Missouri Breaks.  Shirley attended Snow Creek School and Garfield County High School.  She worked in Miles City as a nurses aide and also at Montgomery Ward.  On December 15, 1948, she married Albert “Bud” Taylor.  She worked alongside Bud as they ranched and farmed at Rock Springs.

Shirley loved her family and especially children, colts and kittens. She was well known for her horsemanship and rode well into her 70’s.  Shirley loved to attend sporting events to watch her grandchildren participate.  She especially loved rodeos in which her granddaughters competed in barrel racing.  Her hobbies included gardening and working in her yard raising flowers.  Shirley was a 70 year member of Trinity Lutheran Church-Angela.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Bud, her parents Lawrence and Blanche O’Connell; sisters Lila and Lorene; Brothers Eugene and Darrell and great granddaughter Lily. She is survived by her sister Winnie (Bob) Crowley; children:  Bonnie (Archie) LaRoque, Cody (Jolene) Taylor, Diane (Doug) Ellingson, Dallas (Marlys) Taylor and Shane (Sherry) Taylor, thirteen grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren.  Also surviving her was her dear friend and neighbor Mary Singleton.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City.  Interment will follow in the family lot of the Custer County Cemetery.  Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements.

It was Shirley’s wish that any memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Our thoughts but mostly prayers are with you upon the loss of your precious Mother and Grandmother. Shirley (Bud too) and all of you meant the world to our Pluhar family. Brought tears to my eyes to open the obituary and once again see those sparkling blue eyes that will be so dearly missed. My how it brought back all the memories of the wonderful snowmobile/skating parties and brandings at the ranch. How I cherish those wonderful times with all our dear friends and neighbors. Your home was our home growing up. Mom Inez and Dad Art already miss her dearly but understand God knows best so now Shirley can live at peace forever with Bud back at her side. Blessings and Love to you all!!
