Silas Biglefthand “Hon’eohma’aeste” (RedWolf) 61, of Birney, MT was called home by Maheo on Friday, August 16, 2019.
Silas was born January 23, 1958 in Birney to Raphael Biglefthand and Ruth Sooktis. He attended schools at St Labre and InterMountain Brigham City, Utah, where he met his wife in 1975, they made their home in Lame Deer, MT. He worked at the Ambulance Service, Headstart, Sawmill and Homecare Services in Lame Deer. He was active in his traditional ways throughout his life. He was also active in the Native American Church and often traveled all over to help whenever he was called upon.
He enjoyed basketball season and was a fan of the Morning Stars and Lodge Grass Indians. He enjoyed watching his grandson Jericho Biglefthand play basketball and football and attended Nathan and Ethan’s afterschool actives. He enjoyed being around the rest of his grandchildren when they came to visit. He loved to tease Nathan and Ethan sending odd things in their backpacks to school. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter and was always hunting with his brothers Edwin Biglefthand, Clifton Sooktis and Brother in Law Isaac Washington. He also went and sang at pow wows with (Teton Ramblers) Perry Pine, Raymond Pine, Billy Fighting bear and Bobby Fighting Bear.
He is survived by his wife: Alice Charles, sister-in-law Marilyn (Earl) Frank; Sisters: Nancy Fightingbear, Brothers: Perry (Ella) Fightingbear, Andy (Ella) Sr., Mark, Leonard Elk Shoulder, Vernon Sooktis, His aunt Henrietta Mann, Sons: Raphael (Vania) Biglefthand, Pierce (TerryAnna) Biglefthand, Perry Biglefthand, Alvin (Kendra) Biglefthand, Allen Ray (Elizabeth) Littlecoyote, Delbert Begay, Harley Nelson, Daughters: Ruthie (Ian) Biglefthand, Gwen (Spencer) Talawyma Sr., Janice Charles, Monica Biglefthand, Kio (Roderick) Oya, Darlene Grass, Valerie Murphy, Viola (James) Bigelfthand, Malinda and Arlinda Frank; Nieces and Nephews: Dustin (Sharon) and Milan (Angelita) Goudreaux, Amber Goudreaux, Kimberly, Claudette, Bethany, Gayla, Kelsey, Isaac and Kayle Washington, Jade Sooktis; His grandchildren: Jericho, Nathan, Ethan, Valen, Seth, Jaylen “Baby Boy”, Liela, Twila, Brocade, Alexia, Jessica, Micah, Marie, Rhaeny, Andreya, Aydreyan, Spencer Jr., Allarie, Alvin Jr., Madison, Kaitlyn, Edwin, Evin, Tylin, Larissa, Destiny, Latisha, Tommy, Kelly, Kourtney, Monte Jr. and Desarae.
He also had many brothers and sister, sons and daughters, too many to name, through the Native American Church throughout Indian Country. He was also a member of the Dog Soldiers society.
Silas is proceeded in death by his parents; adopted mother, Lucille Spear; brothers: Edwin, Alvin Biglefthand, Clifton, Frank, Andy Sooktis. Sisters: Emma Jean Little Bear, Viola Washington, Veta Fighting Bear, Joanne Sooktis, Faith Spear, Rubie Sootkis, and his nephew: Monte Littlecoyote Sr. Mentors: George Elk Shoulder, Sr., and Abraham Spotted Elk.
Relatives Include, Ridgebear, Whitedirt, Threefingers, Woundedeye, Strange Owl, American Horse, Sooktis, Seminoles, Medicine Bull, Limberhand, Big Back, Elk Shoulder, Three Fingers, and Youngbear. He had many relatives, too many to name. We apologies if we may have forgotten anyone.
