In Memory Of

Solomon Heth, age 80, of Miles City.

August 22, 1939 – April 20, 2020

In the early hours of April 20, 2020, Sol passed away peacefully in his sleep from natural causes at his home in Miles City, Montana. He was 80 years old.

Sol was born in the town of Mott, North Dakota on August 22, 1939. He was the fifth child of nine born to William and Edna Heth.

As a young man Sol worked building grain bins and farm sheds in the Mott, ND area.

He joined the Army Reserves in the December 1960, was called into active duty during the Berlin Crisis from February 1961 until August 1962 and was honorably discharged from Army Reserves in November of 1966. While in active duty, he spent time in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and Ft. Riley, KS. Many times, we listened to him reminisce about the short, but memorable moments he spent there.

After the Army, Sol spent a short amount of time in California, but he decided that it was not the place for him and almost immediately moved back to North Dakota and in 1975 moved to Montana where he spent the rest of his days.

Sol married Judy Eckelberg in June of 1975. They would later divorce, but during this union two sons were born, William “Bill” in 1976 and Nathan in 1979.

Sol was a true cowboy and spent his life working on and supervising ranches riding horses, herding cattle, sheering sheep and hauling hay. He worked long, hard hours and was finally forced to hang up his spurs at the age of 72.

In his later years, he enjoyed long drives through the countryside reminiscing about days gone past. He also loved to watch his young grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed their mischievous ways. He was loved my many and will be missed by all.

Sol is preceded in death by his parents, William and Edna; and his siblings, Florence Heth, Lillian Roll, Marvin Heth and Darlene Koepplin.

Sol is survived by his two sons, Bill Heth and Nathan (Donya) Heth; three grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; his siblings LaVerne (Juanita) Heth, Shirley Webb, Richard (Candace) Heth and Debra (John) Flath; and other friends and relatives.

At Sol’s request, no viewing services will take place, but there will be a simple remembrance gathering held later at a date still to be determined.

Sorry to her about your loss, Sol was a good friend of mine, he went to work with my step dad (Butch Sweet) in the 70’s on a hay contracting deal, that is when I first met him I was 9 years old at the time. Over the next several years I worked with him in the summers after school got out for the summer putting up hay. He never treated me like a kid he always treated me like a man and respected me. I can remember the old camps we stayed at, one on Foster Creek about 20 miles west of Volborg, Mt. we would bathe in reservoir’s and large wind mill water tanks and it was pretty refreshing at the end of the day just before dark after being on a open swather or baler all day. After Sol Married Judy she would stay at the camps and cook for us. The camps were always secluded with no running water, electricity, or bath rooms. I would spend all summer at these camps with going to town only a few times a summer. I will NEVER forget those times with Sol, some best times of my life when I was growing up. Sol thought my how to work, live off the land, and most of all how to be a friend. Good By Ole Friend.

Sorry to learn of sold passing. He was a good son of gun. Met him in 1972. He was hauling small square bales of horse hay with jack porter to glasscocks feedlot where I was employed. He was a very nice man.
