I am so sorry for your loss. Stanley was a very special man and leader. I really got to know him well later in his life thru the museum and the poker games at Powder River Manor. Those huge hands that scared me in my youth were gentle, kind and so very creative. Stanley shared a wealth of knowledge about our county’s history and residents with us newbies at the museum. He was a joy to be around and I will miss him so much. Hold tight to his memory. Bonnie, Greg and Rick, you are his legacy, and he was so very very proud of each of you. His smile was infectious and I always left his presence in a great mood. My comfort comes from knowing that we will all see that gentle giant again. Sending hugs and love.

Our thoughts are with Stanley’s family during this sad time. Bob has often talked about how appreciative he was of the countless hours that “Stan the Man” donated his time working with the youth baseball teams. Even providing a bus to haul players to out of town games. We always waited on the west end of town for the sound of his airplane coming from the ranch for our practice. Bob always credits his baseball success in American Legion Baseball and later his collegiate career to the efforts of coach Damm and some his fellow Red Devil team mates. That big gentle smile will be greatly missed. RIP Coach Stan….

Bonnie, Rick, and Greg, my heart, thoughts, prayers and hugs go out to you and the rest of the family at this most difficult time. Your dad was a good neighbor to everyone in the Broadus community He was very generous with his time and always there for us. There is one funny incident that I remember. Your dad flew down to our ranch one summer day to discuss helping with the combining of our crops. As he and my dad were discussing business over a cup of coffee, our cat wandered over to the parked airplane, and with its doors open, discovered that the backseat was a very nice place to take his nap. Stanley and dad finished talking business. Stanley, then unaware of his “passenger” got into the plane, closed the door, fired it up, and took off. Suddenly, the plane circled, and made a hasty landing. As soon as it was stopped, the doors were quickly opened, and there was a black and white streak racing across our fields toward the barn. Stanley, then took off and got home safely. The cat apparently woke up, and leaped on to Stanley’s head as he took off. My mom watching from the kitchen window was laughing hysterically when we came back. As for the cat, he was okay physically, but was more careful about choosing his “napping” spots. Whenever I think of Stanley, it’s with a smile on my face. Very good neighbor. He is now reunited with his parents, brothers, Georgia, Sonia, Spencer, grandbaby, and not to mention, some of his poker and pilot buddies. May God Bless and comfort all of you and may he rest in peace.

McCurdy Dave says
Stan leaves behind wonderful memories for many of us. For me, Stanley and Georgia And kids were great neighbors, and I was also one of the beneficiaries of Stan heading up the Broadus youth baseball teams. I suspect he picked up most of the cost. My dad loved Stan’s story about how he (Stan) and some big guys cleared out a bar in London during WWII. Those other guys must have been huge. The Broadus community has lost a really great man.
Laura LeeUllrich says
Our deepest sympathy to the all of the Damm family. Stanley was a mountain of a man, who gave so much of himself to the community, especially the kids! The last time I visited Stanley at the Manor, Julie Long was playing the piano and she played “Take me out to the Ball Game”. I started singing along and so did Stanley! When it got to the part about 1-2-3 strikes your out, he really got into it and made the ump’s gesture for “you’re out!”!;It was so fun and nice to see him laugh like that.I am thankful for that time, May your precious memories sustain you as you remember and celebrate his life!
Kathy Damm Culy says
I am so very sorry for the loss of your father … I always felt he was such a lovely man… Cousin picnics were always a delight seeing both your mother and him and everyone together in the park…May your memories carry you thru this hard time…
Sharyn Wallace says
This is the man everyone should look to for ‘how to live your life’. Garry treasured his visits with Stanley. He would go into the bank for a five minute meeting and spend the next two hours visiting. They also joked about being ‘related’. They both had the middle name Eugene! He was a sensible man. Spencer and Garry were good friends and after his death they leaned on each other.
Pam & Dave says
We have been blessed in Powder River County to have him as our “own” 🙂 So much we can learn from this kind, friendly, caring man, there are not enough positive adjectives to do this amazing man justice. Prayers for all of his loved ones!! We were saddened to not be at his graveside service….hugs and prayers for all!!!
Pat and Neal Sanburn says
