Stanley Phillip Eagle, Sr. “Wakinyan Ma’za” or Iron Thunder left us in the early morning of October 18th, 2021. He was born in Fort Yates North Dakota to Eli and Mary Katherine Eagle on September 15, 1950.
He grew up in Bullhead South Dakota and attended school in McIntosh, South Dakota.
He joined the Army and fought in Vietnam where he was wounded. He received an Honorable Discharge along with a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
He moved to Ashland Montana after being discharged from the Army, where he met his future wife, Ladonna Gray. They were married on May 9th, 1980. Thru this union they were blessed with four children; Julie, Stanley Jr., Katona, Uribe, all of Ashland. Stanley also had a daughter from previous marriages; Tanya Eagle and Michael Eagle of Bullhead, S.D. He also had an adopted daughter Mary Brown-Rivas of Bullhead, S.D., and an adopted son Darrin Yellowhair (deceased). Stanley also raised his granddaughter Kesha Eagle after his daughter passed away.
Stanley worked as an auto detailer and a truck driver before he was hired at St. Labre as a maintenance man in February of 1995. Soon after, he was promoted to maintenance supervisor, a job that he loved. He worked there for 20 years and retired in May of 2015.
He loved to laugh and joke with the many friends he had in the community, he loved attending pow-wows and participating in the gourd dances. He was on the Labor Day pow-wow community for many years and he also participated in many grand entries as part of the Honor Guard.
He would travel back to his hometown as often as possible to visit with friends and family. He always had a joke to tell and made everyone around him laugh. He loved giving his kids and grandkid nicknames and was very good at that. He had a good heart and was a very kind man.
He was taken too soon.

My deepest condolences and prayers for comfort for Stanley Eagle’s family. I remember Stanley fondly as he was nearly always the first person I saw every morning when I came to school (he opened the gates and turned off the alarms). He always greeted me with a smile when I wished him a good morning. Peace and hugs Kaytona.

feel an empty void in our lives without u, I guess I never thought about what it would be like when you would no longer be here I never let myself consider it, and now that ur no longer on earth with us I’m struggling to accept it, today I spent the last couple hours going through and finding pictures, it was amazing to see how many pictures have u and grandma in them. I feel blessed that u and grandma are my grandparents, the best people to travel with that’s for sure, we’re all grieving the loss of u, the most amazing man. A devoted husband, a deeply loved and respected father, and an adored grandfather. The world seems a little less vibrant without u in it grandpa, and got a lot darker in October of 2020,
someday I will see your smiling face again, and hear you laugh again, until then we will continue to look at photos and remember the amazing times you had on earth and with you, we will talk to you and seek your guidance when we need it, we will keep your memory alive and never forget you, you adored each and every single one of your grandkids, no matter how old we were, where we lived or what we were doing, you loved each and every one of us unconditionally and we felt it, and boy do we love you, we love you so much grandpa, I’ll see you on the other side of the camp one day.❤️ I love you forever continue watching us and guiding us bc I guarantee u that most of us can’t do this anymore your memory is what keeps me going, and everything I do is for you.💔

When I heard about the passing of Stanley (CHIEF) as Sonny would call, it stung my heart. He was a great man and always said something funny to make me laugh. He would always tell me to kick his son (Sonny) in the butt for not acting right I could talk to Chief about anything and his advise always helped. Hu are missed by everyone and I hope u was able to meet my father (HARVEY BRANDEN) since u guys didn’t have the chance back than.
