Stanley Haglof

Memorial Service: Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City.

Interment: will be at a later date at the family ranch. A remembrance celebration of Stanleys life will be held in Lafayette, Indiana

Stanley Axel Haglof, age 57 of Lafayette, Indiana, formerly of Rock Springs, Montana, passed away February 20, 2008, in Lafayette, Indiana.

Stanley Axel Haglof was born on June 27, 1950 to Karl Axel Haglof and Elna Strand Haglof in Miles City, Montana. The summer of 1949 Stanley's Dad took a trip back to Sweden. He had three daughters at his Rock Springs Ranch and he and Elna also really wanted a son. When Axel returned from visiting relatives in Sweden their dream was realized and Stanley was born the next summer. Stanley grew up on the family ranch. He had a love for animals. As a young boy he always had a cat or dog in his arms carrying it with him. Stanley attended the 1st thru 4th grade at the Rock Springs Country School, 5th and 6th grade at the Pluhar School at Cohagen, Montana where he and Annalise lived the school year with their older sister Inez and family, and Art Pluhar was the teacher. Then a school bus was started from Rock Springs to Miles City and Stanley attended Washington Junior High his 7th and 8th grade and went on to High School at Custer County High School graduating in June of 1968. Stanley was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church in Miles City, Montana. Stanley was a member of the Crow Rock Coyotes 4-H Club focusing on cattle, horses and range management. While in High School he was a member of the CCHS band making a trip with them to the Rose Parade in Portland, Oregon.Following his graduation from Custer County High School, Stanley and his mother Elna made a trip to Sweden, where Stanley got to meet his Grandfather Adrian Haglof and all the other Haglof and Strand relatives. In the fall of 1968 Stanley attended MSU in Bozeman, Montana, graduating in June of 1972 with a BS degree in Pre-Med. Following his college graduation Stanley loaded his two horses, Dusty and Chestnut in the horse trailer and headed to West Lafayette, Indiana where he had a job with the University of Purdue in the medical science lab focusing on Endocrinology and where he earned his Masters degree in Sciences. He spent the next 35 years in that capacity, acquiring many lifelong friends and receiving many awards for his work in his field. Stanley also tutored many of Purdue's athletes over the years.

His three sisters, Inez Pluhar (Art) of Rock Springs, MT, Elvera Neuhardt (Otto) and Annalise Willson (Jim), both of Miles City, MT, survive Stanley. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews from across
the United States. Also surviving Stanley are cousins: Elaine Richards of Miles City, Mt., Mildred Thompson of Sun City, AZ, Clarence Strand of Richland, WA, and Rolf Haglof of St. Paul, MN, and several cousins in Sweden. Rod, Nancy and Jake Allrich and Dr. Rene Knutson and her husband Don Amsden are good friends surviving Stanley in Lafayette, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, James Roberts Willson.

Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will be at a later date at the family ranch. A remembrance celebration of Stanleys life will be held in Lafayette, Indiana.
