Burial: will follow in the Whiteman Family Cemetery in Lame Deer, MT
Stephen John Whiteman, Sr., age 56 died June 23, 2009 at Med Center One, in Bismarck, ND after a long battle with cancer.
He was born on April 19, 1953 at Crow Agency, MT to Lillian Martin and Aaron Whiteman. He was raised in South Dakota and North Dakota on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He attended UTETC in Bismarck, ND and was a radio dispatcher and ambulance service for the Fort Yates North Dakota Police Department.Throughout his journey in life, the many who had the opportunity to meet him, knew him as caring, generous and devoted to his family. He enjoyed cooking, hunting and though he was good at many sports, he really enjoyed softball and basketball.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian and father Aaron, and his loving wife, Velma Pretends Eagle; brothers, Iver, George, Sr. and Maurice Whiteman; sisters, Doreen Birdhat and Jenny Gourneau.He is survived by his children Steve, Jr., Raquel, and Kimberly of Fort Yates, ND, Andrew of Grand Forks, ND, Amber and Anthea of Mandan, ND and Anthony Whiteman of Rapid City, SD; brothers, Emmett and Stanley Whiteman of Bismarck, ND; sisters, Suzanne and Adrianne Whiteman of Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was blessed with numerous grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, and his favorite cousin, Margaret Cutt.
