Our lives were forever changed on the 26th of October when Steve Duane Shelley was tragically taken from us.
Steve was born on January 8, 1947 in Williston, North Dakota to Russell and Betty Shelley. He was raised as a cowboy from an early age. Steve attended school in Watford City, ND graduating in 1965. Steve attended college in Georgia and Indiana before joining the Army Reserve. Steve has always had a passion for ranching so for him to step in and take over the family business was an easy transition for him. Steve was also employed by Power Fields oil truck business as a manager. While working the family ranch, Steve would also drive truck over the road. While driving through Miles City, Steve stopped at a local diner and that’s where he would meet the love of his life, Beverly Burns, and they would go on to spend 35 wonderful years together. During their marriage they lived in Watford City, Sidney, Custer, S Carolina, where Steve helped his uncle Gordon build houses. They moved back to Montana and Steve owned and operated his own seed cleaning business. To this marriage they had two children. They lived in Ashland for seven years and later moved to South Dakota where they lived for 3 years. After moving from South Dakota they made their home in Lame Deer for seven years. In 2007, Steve accepted a position to manage a ranch in Rosebud, MT for seven years. Steve and Beverly decided to move back home to Lame Deer and that’s where they made their home for the last four years. On October 23, Steve newest grand daughter was born in Dublin, Ireland. Steve dedicated his life to his wife, children and grandchildren. He could often be seen giving rides to his grandchildren on his 4wheeler and ponies. He had a love for animals, gardening and his doves. At the time of his death Steve, was doing what he loved, working his cattle.
Steve is preceded in death by, his parents: Russell and Betty and sister: Nancy. He is survived by his wife of 35 years Beverly, sons: Big Shawn (Missy), Jason, Jeremy, Lil Shawn (Niamh), daughters: LaDonna (Randall), Stephanie (Monte), and Ryhal, who he took as his daughter. Beverly and Shelley Family,
Our Heart Breaks for you. We just talked with Steve last week on the phone. Odd, I think back on that conversation, and one thing he did tell me was he was proud of his family. Monte, Steph and the girls. That he had no regrets, that he married the women he loves. Just wished he could relocate and be young enough to keep ranching, with his family with him. We will miss talking to Steve, peacocks, cattle, horses and family whatever it was, we will cherish those visits. Love to you all! Sending prayers to help you all get threw this. We wish we could come help send Steve home to our Heavenly Father, but will not be able to. Just know we care and are thinking of you. Tom and Cheryl Larsen

I first met Steve in the 1970’s when he was driving truck for Tanglen Brothers out of Crane Mt, the day my receptionist told me in the 90’s I had a tax appointment with Steve Shelley l thought, there can’t be two people by that name there he was all smiles. It’s been a good ride so happy to get reacquainted & get to know Bev. If there is anything you need help with be sure to call us. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
