Sumiko Dinardi, age 88 of Billings, MT formerly of Miles City, passed away on June 16, 2023 at her home in Billings with her family by her side.
Sumi was born on April 4, 1935 in Tokyo, Japan. She was the daughter of Ichizo and Fumi Iida. She grew up in the Tokyo area where she attended grade school and graduated from high school. Shortly after high school she worked at the Atsugi U.S. Naval Base as a secretary. It was here that she met her soon-to-be husband, Daniel Dinardi. They were married on December 19th, 1967, at the American Embassy in Tokyo.
When Dan was honorably discharged from the military in 1970, they moved back to Miles City, MT. Sumi was a stay-at-home mom raising their two children, Sharon and Rob. When the kids were old enough, Sumi worked for K-Mart for 13 years until she retired. With hard work and determination, Sumi completed the naturalization process to become a U.S. citizen on September 23, 1981.
After Dan retired from Burlington Northern, he and Sumi moved to Billings in 2006. Sumi was a wonderful cook. Her brownies with mint icing were one of the grandkids’ favorites. She loved to play cards and take care of her flower garden. She enjoyed teaching her grandchildren how to do origami and loved attending all of their sporting events. Dan and Sumi enjoyed traveling to Japan, Hawaii, and Las Vegas over the years. She was a selfless and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her kindness and patience will be missed by all who knew her.
Sumi is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Hiroshi Iida and Tsutomu Iida; a sister Reiko Kaneko, and a grandson Dylan Cline.
She is survived by her husband Dan Dinardi of Billings; her two children: Sharon (Tony) Cline of Billings and Rob (Shannon) Dinardi of Miles City; four grandchildren: Samuel Cline, Brittney (Brady Williams) Dinardi, Mason Dinardi and Zack Dinardi; two great grandchildren: Blaise Williams and Brystol Williams; three brothers: Toshio Iida, Noburo Iida and Masaru Iida all of Japan.

To all of Sumi’s family
Sumi will be greatly missed. I worked with her in the soft line at Kmart. Only for the 5 years that I worked there, but she had a big impact on my life. I loved when I worked a shift with her. I also loved when her friends came to visit for a break and they would speak in their native language. My prayers are with all of her family.
Sincerely,
Dawne Buck

We are so sorry. Sumi is a wonderful lady to have known – always something good to say and a smile. Paula often came home from a shift at KMart with a Sumi story – positive and with a little touch of mischief. You will think of her as you go through every day – things she said, the way she did her jobs, her looks. That’s how it is with a Mom. We are thinking of you with prayers for peace and comfort. A special hug to you, Sharon.
Kim Stanton says

Kim Stanton
