Susan Kay Celander passed away on September 10th, 2024, at the age of 70 from complications of lung cancer. She was born to parents Gertrude Bair Root McGuire and Clarence Root of Miles City, Montana, on the 19th of August 1954. Susan lived most of her life in Miles City, graduating high school and raising four children: John, Stephanie, Jason, and Jeffrey. Susan had four brothers, Walter, Roger, Ed, and Mike Root, and a sister named Beverly “Nanny” McGuire, all of whom she loved very much.
Susan was a hard-working, generous woman who always tried to do what she could for those around her. She was proud of her family and never missed a graduation or wedding. Susan liked to “put on the dog,” as she called it, and was famous for her lemon pie. Professionally, Susan liked working with the public; she was very charismatic and worked outside the home for many years until she retired in 2003. In her personal life, she enjoyed sewing, cards, politics, going to the lake, and traveling. Mexico was one of Susan’s favorite places; she went there many times for vacation.
Susan devoted much of her life to her children and grandchildren, and her passing has left a hole in our hearts and an empty seat at the table. While her passing has been very saddening to her loved ones left behind, at least now, she isn’t stuck to her oxygen tubing and can finally be free. Susan requested to have no funeral but wants her ashes to be placed with her daughter in Baker, Montana.
Susan is survived by her brother, Roger Root; three children, Stephanie Moog, Jason Celander, and Jeffrey Celander; and seven grandchildren: Clayton Celander, Otto Moog, Everett Moog, Michelle Celander, Kamira Celander, Emma Celander, and Sawyer Celander.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Walter, Ed, and Mike Root, sister Beverly McGuire, daughter Heidi Jo Celander, son John Celander, grandson Cayden Celander, husband Ron Celander, and life partner Patrick Landers.

I ‘ve known Susi since she was a little girl. She stayed at Grandma Bair’s house across the street from our house. She was always the sweetest little girl and grew into a tremendous adult. life was not easy for her but she was always there for her kids and friends that needed any help. Now, she’s resting in those gentle hands above. God bless you Susi.

My condolences to the families of Susie. I didn’t know you very long but the short lived experience was amazing. Always a great smile and a strong love showing for family and friends. Her expression saying I don’t have to wear black anymore and sure enough never did see that as vibrate colors were shown.
Your laughter and smile will be missed. Rest in peace. Prayers for the families
