Susie Toews, age 87, of Wolf Point, Montana and formerly of Lustre, Montana passed away Sunday, July 22, 2007 at Faith Lutheran Home in Wolf Point.
Susie Unrau Toews was born on August 30, 1919 in Chinook, Montana to Heinrich and Katherine Unrau. She was the seventh girl of eight girls. In 1925 the Unrau family moved to a farm in the Lustre community.Susie married Roland Toews on April 15, 1943. Four children were born to them: Joan Joyce (Williams), Lawrence Wesley, Arnold Lavern and Lyman Lee.She came to know the Lord during her midlife. Her life exemplified her relationship to the Lord. She had a compassion for those less fortunate, contributed frequently to childrens charities and taught childrens Sunday School for many years. Susie enjoyed having visitors to share a meal and conversation.
In September of 1993 Roland and Susie moved to Wolf Point to the Faith Lutheran Home. Roland passed away in October 1993. Susie continued to live at the Home. Susie was a kind, compassionate woman who always wanted to go to school. She valued education even though she did not complete high school but pursued adult education by taking nursing classes by correspondence to fill that desire. She loved to be outdoors and helped out with all the farm chores. She was known for her food although she would rather be outdoors in the garden or playing games. She also loved to drive.
Susie is preceded in death by her son, Lawrence (Larry) in 1980, her husband, Roland in 1993, her sisters, Katherine Thiessen, Anna Becker, Marie Wedel, Sara Wall and Agnes Wall.
Susie is survived by: her daughter, Joan Williams of Billings, MT, daughter-in-law Judy Toews Vegge (Don) of Billings, and sons, Arnold (Cori) of Lustre, Montana and Lyman of Deadwood, SD; grandchildren, Brandon (Bethany) Williams of Denver, CO, Adrianna Williams (Matt) of Billings, Crystal Toews (Shane) of Billings, Justin (Jana) Vegge of Janesville, WI, Jeffrey (Stephanie) Toews of Billings, Mark (Jenny) of Billings, and Grady Toews of Bozeman, MT; great-grandchildren, Wesley Lawrence Vegge, Elly Claire Vegge and Gavin Alexander Toews; sisters Helen Wall and Nellie Rauch, both of Wolf Point; brother-in-law David Wall of Wolf Point; sister-in-laws Rosella Toews and Amanda Wall, both of Glasgow, MT, Marjorie Reimche of Harvey, ND, Lillian Toews of Olympia, WA and Helen Toews of Hillsboro, KS. Susie passed away on her son, Lawrence, and fathers birthday.
A Prayer Service will be held Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at 7:00 pm at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point and Funeral Service will be on Thursday, July 26, 2007 at 10:00 am at the Lustre Mennonite Brethren Church with interment following at the Mennonite Brethren Church Cemetery. A noon luncheon will be served.
Memorials can be given in Susies name to Lustre Christian High School or the Gideons.
