Tana Stump, age 20, of Lame Deer

September 22, 2005 – November 18, 2025

Tana Autumn Rain Stump, age 20 of Lame Deer passed away on November 18, 2025 in Billings, MT.

Tana was born Sept,22 of 2005 to Darrell Stump and late Fern Standingwater at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings.  She was born a premature baby, only weighing 3 pounds, but she was a fighter from the start of her life. Tana could fit in the palm of her dad’s hand; she was given her Cheyenne Indian by her grandma Ethelene Stump “Pipestem Woman” then on her Cree side she given “Sweet grass woman” by one of her Cree grandpa’s. She grew up a grandma’s baby and she never wanted to leave the reservation one time while her and Grandma Ethelene was coming to Billings she seen the sign leaving Northern Cheyenne reservation, she busted out crying and wanted to go back home. All through her school years she attended Lame Deer public school later receiving her GED at the Job Corp in Anaconda, MT and was also studying Welding. She then returned home and was recently attending DKMC to further her education. Tana had a good friend while growing up her name was Anjelicia Killsnight. She grew up being a tomboy with her dad and uncles but still helped her grandma baking and making dry meat. Tana had a close bond with her cousin Terrell Stump they both were the first 2 grandma’s baby’s.

Tana leaves behind her dad Darrell Stump and siblings Haden Standingwater, Aubrey, Blake, Gemma Strangeowl, her grandmas Ethelene Stump and Annette Standingwater grandpa Denny Standingwater Sr, uncles Shawn, Leslie Jr and Cree Stump along with cousins Terrell, Shawn Jr and Jena and Connor, Olivia and Losella Stump Tana was preceded in death by her Mother Fern Standingwater and Grandpa Leslie Stump Sr. Tana was blessed to come from an large family from both Northern Cheyenne and Cree sides. Tana is also survived by: Aunts: Julie Not Afraid, Deidra Hill, Ashley (John) GunShows, Misty RedStar, Julia Stump, Lisa Martinez of Billings, MT, Janet (Paul) Chase of Rocky Boy, MT; Grandma: Jobyna Stump; Uncles: J.R. Not Afraid, Huck SunChild of Rocky Boy, MT. Tana is blessed on both sides of her dad and mothers’ side of family to help her through this difficult time with prayers and food to help her with her journey back home. Sorry if we didn’t mention you at this time but she comes from a very large family the Little Whiteman’s, Whitedirt’s, Whistlingelk’s, Stump’s, Myers and Russette’s.  She is preceded in Death: Glen Stump, Leon Stump, Carmella Not Afraid, Colen Gibson, Sonya Sunchild, Vilene Not Afraid, Valeria Iron, Kathleen Stump, Joyce Stump; Great Grandparents: Patrick & Julia Stump.

A traditional wake will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at the Lame Deer Mennonite Church in Lame Deer, MT. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lame Deer Mennonite Church in Lame Deer, MT. Interment will follow in the Brady Family Cemetery in Lame Deer.
