Thaida Batey of Forsyth passed from this world to the next on Monday, July 3, 2017 at the age of 83. She was surrounded by her entire family. Thaida was born July 14, 1933 in Ashland Montana to Les and Mary Beatty Snodgrass. She spent her youth in Ashland, later graduating high school from Rosebud High in 1951. She married her husband, Ray Batey on February 2,1952.
Ray and Thaida lived on the Rosebud Creek and operated the Batey Ranch for 46 years. Thaida was often found operating haying equipment and preparing meals for hay and thrashing crews. Thaida was well known for her delicious meals and baked goods. She enjoyed her home and loved to entertain. In 2000, the ranch sold and Ray and Thaida moved into Forsyth.
Thaida’s greatest joy came from her six grandchildren. Every summer the grandchildren would attend “Grandma Camp“. Over the years, many nieces and nephews also spent time at the “Grandma Camp“. One of her favorite sayings was, “Grandchildren are your gift from God for not killing your own”.
She was a founding member of the Rosebud / Treasure Cowbells, a member of the Federated Church, Forsyth Country Club, and Eastern Star. Her hobbies included, golf, bowling, and playing cards with friends.
She is survived by her husband, Ray of 65 years; son, Dee (Shelly) Batey of Belgrade; daughter, Cindy, of Henderson, NV; six grandchildren: Devon, Jordan (Natasha), Amanda, Meghan, Briane, and George; brother, Ralph (Mary) of Billings; sisters, Sharon (Gary) Knudson of Great Falls, and Leslie Morin (Lyman) of Ashland; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Dicky, Jim, and Albert: sisters: Helen, Phyllis Watters, Audrey Bjerke, and Ilo Maak.
Services will be held at 11:00 at Stevenson and Sons Funeral home in Forsyth, with interment at the Forsyth Cemetery. A reception will follow at Stevenson and Sons.
