Thelma Esther Sprandel, age 84, of Miles City, MT passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at the Cottonwood Care Home in Miles City.
Thelma was born in Myers, Montana on May 26, 1919 to Llewellyn and Perley Pearl (Watson) Morgan and moved to Miles City at a young age. She attended schools in Miles City and graduated from Custer County High School. Thelma worked at Genty Flower and Greenhouse, which is where she met Walter Sprandel. Thelma and Walter were married on December 17, 1940 and they moved to the family farm. In 1946, they purchased a farm at Buffalo Rapids and continued living on the home place. After Walter passed away in 1997, she lived with her daughter Mary Lou on the farm until entering the Cottonwood Care Home in November 2001. Thelma was a homemaker at heart. She enjoyed cooking and canning, and was excellent at both. She loved to sing and play the piano and enjoyed all of the pets out on the ranch. Thelma was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother to all.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church, sang in the choir, was involved in several ladies groups and taught at Sunday school in her earlier years.
Thelma is survived by two sons, Raymond (Judy) Sprandel of Miles City and Bozeman, MT, and Kim (Leslie) Sprandel of Miles City, four daughters; Mary Lou (Bill) Hampton of Miles City, MT, Norma J. Johnsgard of Billings, MT, Judy F. (Noel) Rivera of Phoenix, AZ and Bonnie M. Kolka of Miles City, MT, her sister, Margaret Fillafer of Rock Springs, MT, nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Walter in 1997, one son Donald W. Sprandel in 1972, three brothers; John Morgan, Lew Morgan and Claude Morgan and a great-grandson James.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2004 in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Family will receive friends on Thursday, February 19, 2004 from 5:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home, in Miles City, Montana. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 20, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Custer County Cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements.
