Theodore Clifford Spottedwolf age 70 of Lame Deer, the tough ole cowboy took his last ride and crossed over to the other side on June 9th, 2011 at Aspen Meadows Nursing Home in Billings. Surrounded by his daughter, granddaughter, twin sister, brother-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews. He knew that he would be leaving us and tried to prepare us but it still hurt to let him go.
Clifford, as he liked to be called, was born on December 6th, 1940 to Chief Patrick Spottedwolf and Jean Walters Spottedwolf in Lame Deer in a log house. He was truly the baby of the Spottedwolf family because his twin Aladine Spang was born first. He was given the Indian name Mo'ehno'ha htameohtsstse Walking Horse . He grew up on the Northern Cheyenne reservation, in his younger years the family lived in Ashland, he and his twin went to school at St. Labre Indian Catholic School. He worked in the oil fields in Gillette WY, Peabody Coal Mine, and BIA roads department as a heavy equipment operator and retired in 2006. His favorite pastime was driving the hills of the Northern Cheyenne reservation, hunting, fishing or just visiting his family and friends. In his younger years he liked to ride horses, brand and participate in rodeos.
Clifford has joined his father Patrick, mother Jean, his sisters, Ruby Flying, Eldora Bement, Josephine Cooper, Mollie Small and brother James Spottedwolf.
He leaves behind his daughters Event Spottedwolf of Billings, Selma Swank and Jenny (Tom) Stark of Helena, Lisa Spottedwolf of Polson, Paula Spottedwolf and son Paul Spottedwolf. His grandchildren Stephanie, Eddie Jr, Soni Rose, Winter Rose, Patrick, Nicole, Jenna, Timothy, Chastity, Brooke, Tamberly, Zachary, Danielle and Tyson His twin sister Aladine (James) Spang of Lame Deer, brother Clarence (late Adaline) Spottedwolf of Billings. Additionally, Clifford had 21 great grandchildren. A great granddaughter whom he help raise Shattorie White Wolf. He also leaves behind special family members Rita Betancourt-Villa, Julian HiWalker, Robert Bement, Mollie Hurff, Bonnie Belt, Jule Booboo Spang, Susie Cain and Larry Flying Sr, as will as numerous friends. A large extended family to many menition.
The family would like to thank the staff at Aspen Meadows TLC unit for caring for Clifford and a special thank you to Ninette, CNA, Danny, transportation also a special thanks to the Billings Clinic Cancer Infusion Center staff, Dr. Santala and nurse Chelsea.Dad and grandpa we love you and will miss you very much, you will always be in our hearts. You are now with Eldora, Jesse and your dad Pat & mom Jean pain free and forever younger.
Wake services will be 7 p.m. Monday June 13, 2011 in the social hall of St Labre Mission in Ashland. Mass of Christian burial will at 11 a.m. Tuesday June 14, 2011 at the St Labre Mission.
