Thomas Kendall Fitzgerald, age 62, of Jordan passed away on the afternoon of September 23, 2009. He had always spoke of moving back to his ranch someday, that day has come.
Thomas Kendall Fitzgerald was born on Feb. 20, 1947 to Leo & Daisy Fitzgerald. He was raised on their ranch north of Sand Springs along with his brothers, Pat & Bob, and sister Nancy. Tom attended school in the country and graduated from Garfield County High school. Tom attended Eastern Montana College for teaching, but did not finish, choosing instead to farm & ranch.Tom was married to Linda Sprague in April of 1974. Lindas children, Brandon & Mega were soon joined by Ronda in 1975, Mariah in 1976, and Thomas Tel in 1980.Tom was a hard-working man. He raised horses, cows and crops on the ranch and drove truck to make it pay. He was a good provider for his family and he loved them in his way.
Tom also enjoyed an avid social life and liked to do many things. He especially loved playing the guitar and singing with his good friends Skip & Sonny Olson. Tom enjoyed boating, skiing, fishing, wagon trains, and spending time with friends & family. Some of his favorite things were steak, maple nut ice cream, buttered popcorn, Ranier beer, big boat cars and John Candy movies. Some of his more memorable accomplishments were taking part in the Cattle Drive of 89 and making an album of Toms Country with his good friend Buck Sloan.Toms presence was undeniable. He was a big man. Whether you liked him or not you had to look up to him. He had unforgettable character and wit.
Tom suffered an unfortunate accident 16 years ago which left him somewhat disabled. He spent most of his retirement at the Garfield County Health Center in Jordan. He loved the town of Jordan and its people. It has always been his home and he was very happy with the care he received. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Leo & Daisy, and also by his step-dad Harold Twito and a special mother-in-law, Lola Jackson.
Tom's survivors include his children, Brandon Sprague (Paula), Mega Hobbs, Ronda Fuhrman (Todd), Mariah McLaughlin (James), Tel Fitzgerald, their mother Linda and numerous grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Pat (Kathy) & Bob (Carlyne) Fitzgerald, and sister Nancy (Martin) Coe.
A memorial service and luncheon will be held at the VFW of Jordan on Saturday, October 3 at 11 a.m. Toms children and immediate family will spread his ashes at his ranch where Big Tom will reside forevermore. Toms friends are invited for a memorial get together in downtown Jordan on Friday evening Oct. 2. Please come to share your stories and memories with family and have a drink in his memory.
