Thomas Joe "Tom" Smith, son of Carl & Dorla (Harvey) Smith passed away on December 17, 2007 at Forsyth.

Tom was born on September 25, 1968 in Sheridan, Wyoming. He attended schools in Wyoming, Montana and then Ritzville, Washington where he graduated from high school. Tom attended Spokane Junior College and then entered the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Midway.Tom excelled in athletics while in high school. He was an excellent wrestler and football player. Tom has always loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and boating with his family. Toms service in the U.S. Navy was cut short by the death of his parents in June of 1990. He then returned to Ritzville and the Spokane area where he again attended college. In 1994 Tom relocated to Forsyth, Montana to live near his aunt. He worked in building construction, spent two tours on Alaskan fishing boats, and every Fall did what he loved best, guiding big game hunters. Many close friendships were formed through the years between Tom and his clients, one of whom nicknamed him Montana Mountain Goat.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Dorla Smith, and by his grandfathers Ray Harvey, Max Smith, and step-grandfather Ward Means. Also preceding Tom in death was his ever-faithful companion, his black lab Digger.

He is survived by his maternal grandmother, Dora Harvey Means of Forsyth; his paternal grandmother, Elma Smith of Holyoke, CO; his aunt Sharon Borla of Forsyth; uncle and aunt Ronnie & Sharilyn Harvey of Forsyth; uncle and aunt Randy & Jean Harvey of Sheridan, WY; and cousins Jeff Rogge of Bozeman, Jessica Harvey of Forsyth, Alex Harvey and Daniel Harvey of Sheridan, WY; and his godchildren Cassie and Hunter Johnson of Spokane, WA.
