Tim Chavez lived the life of a nomadic warrior. Tim lived life as a free spirit, as free as he could be, which at times came with risks. Tim had survived being shot at, serial killers trying to get him, numerous car wrecks, being hit by a drunk driver, and the blocks dropping on an oil rig. In the end he couldn’t believe cancer was what was going to take him. Tim passed away at home on February 12th peacefully with his family by his side.
Tim Chavez was born to Dolly Stewart and Richard Bahee of Crow Agency, Montana. He was later adopted by Samuel and Esther (Soria) Chavez. He grew up with them and his sister, Veronica Chavez Wetsch in Sanders and Hysham, Montana. In Hysham is where Tim went to school. The Chavez and Soria families are quite large, he had lots of aunts and uncles and cousins, all who he loved dearly. Tim grew up with numerous cousins, just a few to mention would be Ed and Ray Chavez who called him Timatao. Butch Schleining has stories of Tim’s boxing abilities. Tim loved boxing and martial arts. He really loved westerns too. He grew up working along with his dad, Samuel as a farmhand. He would always joke about getting up early before dawn to get out in the fields and change water. He would holler at us to “Get up, there’s 7 heads of water to change!”
Once Tim left Hysham, he worked in the oilfields with his family. He thrived during the oil boom in the 70s and 80s. He started working with his sister’s husband at the time, Spike Eychaner. He eventually became his Chain hand. He was a good worker and one of the best chain hands in the oil field. He always had laughter and a sparkle in his eyes that will never be forgotten. Tim always stated “Look! Ten fingers! Best chain hand ever!” after working in the oil industry in the 70s and 80s he took numerous jobs. He had been the worlds fastest hitch hiker, construction worker, roofer, and a fire fighter. In one instance, Tim was fighting fire and he was the only one that was able to find the smoke, all the big wigs were so happy that he found it.
Tim is preceded in death by his parents and sister.
Survivors include his niece, Ronnie Mae (Allen) Mack of Hysham; great nephews and nieces, Christopher Mack, Samantha Mack, Michael Mack, and Veronika Woods; great great niece and nephews. Being his only niece, I want to say that “He was the best uncle that I ever had! He loved me as he should, and I will never forget him.”
Memorial services will be held at a later date, Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

Cousin Tim –
I’m so happy I got the chance to visit with you not long before the Lord called you to Heaven. I have many wonderful memories of bbq’s and just getting together with the Piseno, Chavez, Soria and Lopez families. To me, those were the days! Family having fun and a good time.
I love you Tim!
Your Cousin, Annette
