In Memory Of

Timothy Lee McGlothlin

January 6, 1972 – October 27, 2011

Timothy Lee McGlothlin, age 39, of Miles City passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2011 as a result of a mountain biking accident.

Tim was born on January 6, 1972 in Helena, Montana, son of Charles and Ruth (Miller) McGlothlin. He attended first grade in New Mexico, then moved to Laurel, MT where he graduated from high school. Following graduation, he attended Montana State University for two years, and worked for Hamilton Ranch in Montana for almost nine years. Tim decided he wanted to become an EMT and firefighter, and volunteered for three years at Twin Bridges, MT, before becoming a fulltime firefighter. He went to work for the Miles City Fire and Rescue in 2002 where he had earned the rank of Captain and continued to work there until the time of his death.

Tim was humble in his many achievements. He had an easy way with people, and made friends everywhere he traveled. Tim was a driven firefighter-EMT-I. He downplayed his role as a lifesaver, but was always there to help his fellow firefighters and anyone in need. Tim played the bagpipes, and was actively involved in the Caledonian Society. He was an Eagle Scout. He recently rode from Montana to New York City on his Harley Davidson with several other firefighters to take part in the 10th anniversary of 911. Tim was very active in the MDA, as well as several other charities. He was an active hockey player, photographer, and enjoyed mountain biking. Tim looked forward to his annual autumn trek West to go elk hunting with his family and friends. Tim was also a certified SCUBA diver and swift-water rescuer, and used these skills in his role as rescue firefighter-EMT-I. Tim embraced life, he was always looking for a new challenge, and enriched many people´s lives along the way. Tim was a member of the state honor guard and active in firefighter groups, including heading up the Montana chapter of an international motorcycle organization and acting as an officer for the International Association of Firefighters local union.

Tim is survived by his parents, Charles and Ruth McGlothlin of Park City, MT; a brother, Michael McGlothlin of Anchorage, AK; two sisters; Shelley (William) Johnson of Billings, MT and Shonna (Tom) Ulibarri of Greeley, CO; his best friend and true love, Valerie Smith of Miles City, MT; two nieces and two nephews: and a large extended family. He is also survived by his many brothers and sisters in the fire service.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Fireman´s Section of the Custer County Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.stevensonandsons.com.

Tim was an active member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association through the Miles City Fire Department. Friends are asked to give donations in his name to the MDA, the Special K Ranch, or to the charity of one´s choice.
