In Memory Of

Tyla Kay Elkshoulder, age 27 of Butte, formerly of Lame Deer.

February 7, 1992 – February 18, 2021

Tyla Kay Elkshoulder, age 29, was born on February 7, 1992, and passed away suddenly on February 18, 2021. He Seo Vo’Ka’e (Sandy Hair Woman), named after her Paternal Grandmother, Ruby Tallwhiteman and Hao’hoova’e (Stands-In-Timber Woman), named after her Maternal Grandmother, Twila Eaglefeathers. Tyla Kay was the proud “Boy Mom” to Lazare Ace, Cairo Shaun, and Kaden Cole. She was the daughter of Michele (Michael) Eaglefeathers Elkshoulder and Shaun (Jodie) Elkshoulder, and a big sister to Cody and Maryan Elkshoulder, and Madison Shoulderblade.

Tyla Kay started her high school years briefly in Mississippi but came home to graduate from Northern Cheyenne Tribal School, and went onto attend Chief Dull Knife College.

Her favorite past time was reading James Patterson novels but the time spent with her children is what she loved the most.  She always looked forward to the summer time adventures with her sons in Butte, where she called home. She had the most beautiful green eyes and welcoming smile.  She had a quiet demeanor, until you got to know her true personality then she would talk your ear off.  She had a cool sense of humor that would leave you chuckling.  Tyla Kay’s unexpected death came as a shock to those who knew her as daughter, Mom, sister, niece, cousin, auntie and friend.

Tyla Kay was called back home by Ma’heo to be with paternal grandfather, George Elkshoulder, Jr. and her maternal grandmother, Milene Eaglefeathers, whom she loved and missed dearly. She recently lost her cousin, Kammie Spang.

She is survived by her sons, parents and siblings. Maternal aunts – Tyra and Shandi Eaglefeathers, Tami Ontiveros, Lari Beartusk. Maternal Uncles – Dornie, Randy, Brandy Americanhorse, Duane, Dana, Shawn, Mychal, Moke Eaglefeathers, Cheyenne Hendrickson. Maternal Grandmother – Mildred Eaglefeathers, Michelle and Nadine Tallbull, Jonita Harris, Tina Limberhand, and Jodi Louis. Maternal Grandfather – Rodney, Jacob, Jr., and Dana Tallbull. Paternal aunts – Shauna Elkshoulder Swank, Lou Ann Mason, Sara Mason. Paternal Uncles – Keith Elkshoulder, Sr., Clayton Mason, Trey, Stoney, Cree, Wacy Elkshoulder
Paternal Grandparents – Maryann (Bill) Mason, Charles Henry and Dora York of Mississippi.

Tyla Kay’s relatives are descendants of Chiefs Littlewolf and Dull Knife and include the following families – Fisher, Robinson, Beartusk, Eaglefeathers, Brady, Sooktis, Wolfname, Seminole, Whiteman, Russell, Onebear, Spear, Trosper, Moss, White Antelope, Elkshoulder, Wandering Medicine, Walksalong and many more. Our family is large and her friends were numerous. We apologize if we forgot anyone or didn’t mention you by name.
