Valentine Jessie (Riesland) Butler was born on February 1, 1914 near Hartford, Kansas and passed away at her home on the Gleason Ranch on June 17 2004,
A service will be at the Blanch Beck Memorial Chapel at Pioneer Manor on Monday June 21, 2004 with Pastor Gordon Harper of Gillette Christian Vineyard officiating.
She was raised at Rocky Point, Wyoming with ten brothers and sisters. She graduated high school from Moorcroft, WY in 1931. Then going on with normal training, getting her teaching certificate. She taught school in the Rocky Point area for two years. She married Bert Byron Butler on March 25, 1933 in Broadus, Montana.
From this union four children were born; Joan Jessie (Mrs. Bob Boldes) of Laverne, OK, Gail Ivon (Mrs. Bud Gleason) of Weston, WY, Roberta Lea (Mrs. Ross Billingsley) of Dayton, WY, Gary Butler (wife JoEllen Williams Butler) of Cheyenne, WY, 16 grandchildren, 27 great grand-children and 17 great-great grandchildren.
They homesteaded on Crazy Woman Creek and herded sheep for Tom and Goldie Dixon. Tom Dixon bought their homestead. Tiny and Bert worked for different ranches. They leased Berts parents place at Rocky Point and ran it until 1945 when Bert was drafted into the Navy in WWII.
At this time they sold everything and Tiny and the three girls moved to Gillette, where Gary was born November 1945. They lived in Gillette when Bert passed away in 1979. Tiny moved to Lavern, OK, in January 1991 where she lived near her daughter Joan for 9 years. She moved back to Gillette in August 2000 where she lived at the Stocktrail apartments in assisted living until May of 2003 when she moved east of Weston, WY, to live with her daughter and son-in law Bud and Gail Gleason until her death.
She was an avid reader all of her life and dearly loved the book machine furnished for the seeing impaired by the state of Utah for the blind. She loved and lived for her Lord, prayed for her family and many friends.
Mrs. Butler is survived by three daughters, 1 son, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
