Interment: Valley View Cemetery in Broadus, MT.

Velna Traub, 85 of Broadus Montana passed away Thursday October 1, 2009 at St. Vincents Hospital in Billings due to congestive heart failure.

Velna was born July 4, 1924 at Ridge, Montana to Peter and Nannie Richards. She was the last born of 10 children. She attended grade school at the Belle Creek School and High School in Ekalaka and Broadus. While growing up she especially enjoyed horseback riding and making music with her brothers.

Velna was baptized and married Bill Traub on June 6, 1945 at St. Davids Catholic Church in Broadus by Father Pat. They were blessed with three children, Judy in 1946, Nancy in 1948, and Bob in 1955.Velna had many jobs over the years.

Velna worked on and off at Eds Hardware until becoming an Avon representative in 1975 and continued until June of 2009.Velna spent countless hours over the years baking and decorating cakes for various occasions, including weddings, anniversaries, and birthdays. She will always be remembered for her quality pie baking abilities! She began working for the Senior Center in 1985 for Green Thumb. In 1995 she became Director of the Senior Center, retiring from that position in August of 2009. Velna was also an active member in Altar Society and Garden Club.

Some of the things Velna enjoyed most in life were huge family gatherings, crossword puzzles, scrabble, playing cards, solitaire , making and listening to music, dancing and organizing dances for the seniors. One of the things she looked forward to most was the annual anniversary celebration with Ted and Peggy Fletcher and Ace and Addie Goodwin which has been ongoing for the past 50 years.

She is survived by brother, John and sister-in-law Eugenie Richards two daughters, Judith Marie Thornock and Nancy Lynn Stillman (Ernie), one son, Robert(Bob) William Traub, Jr.(Carolyn), grandchildren, Cindy (Scott) Parrish, Marty (Diane) Hulford, Teri Wesland, Dawn Stillman, Troy Stillman, Telisa Williams, Christel (Brad) Powell, and Bobbi Marie (Josh) Rumph. Great grandchildren, Jordan (Anthony) Jankowski, Brandon & Jenna Parrish, Ben, Alise, and Elden Hulford, Desirae Hulford, Ryan Stillman, Brynna & Shiley Bart, Braelynn and Dalton Powell, Jadyn Traub, Michael, Logan and Payton Rumph, and one great-great grand-daughter Caylen Jankowski.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her parents, 5 brothers, Clarence, Clyde, Ellis, Arnold and Archie, 3 sisters, Maude and Helen, and one baby girl at infancy grandson Joey Hulford, and son in-law, Carl Thornock.

Visitation for Velna Traub, age 85, will be held on Monday, October 5, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus, MT. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. David Catholic Church in Broadus, MT. Interment will follow in Valley View Cemetery in Broadus, MT.
