On July 15, 2013 Velva McGee, age 88, passed away at Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City, MT surrounded by family.
Velva was born October 18, 1924 in Phelps, KY in Pike County, the daughter of Floyd P. Wolford and Elizabeth (Van Dyke) Wolford. She had 9 other siblings, 3 sisters and 6 brothers.
Velva was married to Joe Daugherty Jr. with whom she had two children, Bobby Dale and Sheri Lynn. She lived in Kentucky until 1962 at which time she moved to the Crow Rock Ranch in the vicinity of Miles City, to live with her sister who taught school in the area. She met and married J. Donald McGee in 1963 and resided on the Crow Rock ranch until 1968 at which time she and Donald moved to Miles City. She worked at the Met Café, Ten Spot Café, and the 600 Café as a cook. In 1981 she was widowed and retired from working. She lived in her home until 2005 at which time she moved in with her daughter due to health problems.
Her happiest thing in this world, was first and foremost, was Jesus Christ, followed by her lover for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. After her lover for her family came her love of fishing and gardening. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles (she claimed that the only reason she got the “gossip” magazines were for the crosswords!), regular puzzles, crocheting many afghans for her family and friends, reading, and praying every day for her loved ones.
Velva was preceded in death by Joe Daugherty, J. Donald McGee; brothers and sisters, Gene, Horacel, Hassell, Carvel, Dale, Merle and Floyd Jr.
Velva is survived by her son, Bobby Dale (Karen) Daugherty; one daughter, Sheri Lynn (Mike) Conley; Beatrice (Curtis) Workman, Betsy Wolford Phillips (Gene). She is also survived by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Many thanks to Dr. Base, her primary physician at Billings Clinic, Dr. Vadheim who took such good care of her for years before his retirement, and the nurses and office staff that always called her by name and made her feel welcome.
Special thanks to the staff at Holy Rosary Hospital who made her journey to the future so much better with their special care. Thank you to everyone many, many times over for their gentle touch, concern, caring knowledge and for doing all they could to keep the inevitable from occurring.
An extra special thank you and gratefulness to Mike and Joyce Conley who responded to her life alert button and gave us an extra two weeks with her to love.

Bob and Sheri – I am so sorry about your mom. I did not know or I would have been at the funeral. Your mom was the only one of my friend’s moms who treated me well and I always loved her for that. Sheri – you and I go way back….I know how special your mama was – I have so many memories of her and you and the house by the park. Your mom was such an awesome woman – I am sure she it smiling down at all of us. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

My sincere condolences to the family of Velva McGee – May you find comfort in your loving memories, beautiful pictures and in recalling the many talents of Mrs. McGee. God has promised that a time will come when no one will say “I am sick” (Isaiah 24:33). In the Bible book of Genesis, we notice that God intended for mankind to live in perfect conditions in the Garden of Eden, which was a paradise where everything was “very good” (Gen 1:31). Suffering and death were not a part of God’s purpose but was introduced through Adam’s disobedience (Romans 5:12)). Our loving Creator has promised that soon pain and death will be no more (Revelation 21:4).The Paradise that was originally promised for the earth in the Garden of Eden will be restored. It is hoped that you are comforted by Bible promises of a hopeful future (John 17:3).
