Interment: will follow in the Eastern Montana Veterans Cemetery with full military rites provided by VFW Post #1579 Miles City Honor Guard
Vernon Steinert, age 80, of Broadus, MT formerly of Miles City, MT, passed away as a result of a car accident on December 30, 2005 near St. Onge, South Dakota.
Vernon was born on April 29, 1925, the son of Jacob and Katherine (Bucholz), Steinert in Meredith, Montana. He attended grade school at Hartwick School and went to High School at Custer County High School. After Vernons schooling, he began working road construction until he proudly enlisted in the United States Army. Vernon served for two years where he was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he received while serving, and the Bronze Star for heroism and valor. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Montana and the construction business. Vernon later became self-employed as an excavating contractor. Vernon married Darleen Sams in South Dakota, and to this union three children were born. He and Julia Pearce were married on November 13, 1993 in Big Timber, MT. They made their home in Big Timber. Due to Vernons courageous battle with cancer for the last eight years they moved back to Broadus in November of 2005 to be closer to family and VA medical facilities.
Vernon is survived by his wife Julia Pearce-Steinert of Broadus, MT, his children; Terry (Shirley) Steinert of Red Lodge, Daniel (Virginia) Pearce of Thermopolis, WY, Don (Penny) Pearce of Broadus, MT, Diane Molstad of Miles City, MT and Verna (Kent) Cotton of Wolf Point, MT, two brothers; Willard Steinert of Selah, WA and Irvin Steinert of Forsyth, MT, his sister Leona Madler of Billings, MT, 14 grandchildren; Lynette, Deryk, Farrah, Danny, Jason, Nathan, April, Bryce, Ray, Heather, Jonathan, Josh, Ed, and Jeff, six great-grandchildren; Braden, Brydger Bailey, Abby, Ethan, and Ron.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at 2:00 pm at the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Eastern Montana Veterans Cemetery with full military rites provided by VFW Post #1579 Miles City Honor Guard.
