Funeral services for Gillette resident Veryl Mae (Smith) Burton will be at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Gillette in Gillette, with Pastor Iaasac Smith officiating.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Mount Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette, Wyoming.

Mrs. Burton passed away at her home on Saturday, October 15, 2005 of heart complications.

Veryl Mae Smith was born on March 14, 1932 in Stanton, Nebraska the daughter of Viola and Harrison Smith. On October 21, 1950 she married Bob Bittner in Winner, South Dakota. They had three daughters; Cheri, Debra and Vicki. She and Bob later divorced. Then on April 30, 1961 Veryl married Diffee Burton, who had one son, Baxter. For many years the couple owned and operated several motels, restaurants and other various businesses. Veryl was a devoted grandmother and great grandmother. She loved to gamble in Deadwood, South Dakota and enjoyed relaxing at home.

Mrs. Burton is survived by three daughters; Cheri Charles of Rapid City, South Dakota; Debra Almen of Gillette, Wyoming and Vicki Christensen of Norfolk, Nebraska; step son, Baxter Burton of Sturgis, South Dakota; twelve grandchildren and twenty five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two husband’s, her parents, two brothers, one sister and two great granddaughters.
