Virginia Lee Compton Roberts departed this world on May 19th, 2015 at her home in Mile City.
Virginia was born February 6th, 1943 in Worland, Wyoming the eldest daughter of Kenneth and Paula Smith Compton. Virginia went to grade school in Greybull, Wyoming and the family moved to Billings, MT where Virginia went to middle school. Following middle school the family moved to Miles City where Kenneth worked for Pine Hills School as the butcher and Paula continued her teaching at Custer County High School where she taught English and Home Economics and Virginia continued her education and graduated high school in the spring of 1961. In the fall of 1960 she met a “cute little cowboy” by the name of Ken Roberts. When Virginia graduated High School she married Ken on June 24, 1961. Virginia and Ken made their home on the Mizpah Creek on the family ranch with Ken’s parents and sister’s family (The Weischedel’s). Many happy memories were made in that time. Brandings, birthdays and Christmases were to name a few. In 1977 they purchased a home in Miles City to have a place to be when the kids were in school. It was at that time that Virginia started working outside of the home. She purchased Mode O Day Clothing that was later renamed Fashion Crossroads. She owned the clothing store until the entire block burned down in the early 80’s. Virginia then started a career as a Certified Dietary Manager at Friendship Villa and at The Valley View Nursing Home in Billings for many years. Virginia had a love of cooking. She was a fabulous cook and everyone near and far loved her cooking. She continued cooking at local restaurants off and on until she was not able due to her health. Virginia had a love for flowers and gardening, cooking and especially Christmas. She loved Christmas and the time spent with family over the holidays. Virginia was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and daughter. She was a caretaker to many including her mother, mother in law and grandchildren. She will be so very missed.
Virginia is survived by her husband Ken and children Kent (Mickey) and children Lacy, Zane, Reed, Christopher Lloyd, Jennifer (Justin) and Matthew and grandchildren Xaidyn and Amirra. Becky (Bill) and children Cole (Briana) and Grant. Bruce (Jamie) and children Michael, Bentley and Kynnlee. Gayles children William (Danielle) and Cody and grandchildren Madelynn and Allison Terrett. She is also survived by her brother Russell (Gloria) Compton, Sister Barbara Compton and brother Kenneth Compton and numerous nieces and nephews. Virginia is also survived by a lifelong dear friend Sarah McGill. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Paula, her grandson Trace Allen Roberts, her daughter Paula Gayle Terrett and numerous Aunts and Uncles.

We are so sorry for the loss of such a dear lady and our former neighbor. She never failed to stop and visit with us when we would run into her & Ken. She always asked about “her kids” and not long ago was amazed to see Kaleigh. She said, “Oh my goodness, is that my sweet little red head that would run across the street to bring ‘Ginia’ garden tomatoes?” We thought the world of her, and our thoughts are with her family that will miss her so.

Ken, Kent, Becky, Bruce and families,
It is with a sad heart I send my condolences to all of you.
Virginia was truly one-of-a-kind. I first met Virginia at age 12, when my parents purchased a ranch in Montana. Ken. Virginia, Gayle and Kent were our closest neighbors. Virginia included me in many family activities and hosted a wedding shower for me. When I moved back to Miles City in 1999 it was Virginia that offered a place to stay until I could find an apartment. Virginia will be missed by many. My prayers are with you at this difficult time.

So, so sorry to hear of Virginia’s death. I’ve known the family since I was a little girl, and as an adult I have gotten to spend time visiting with her and connecting with her as that adult. She was a marvelous woman and will be missed by so many. My fondest memory, and I would remind her of her doing this, was a movie we have of her proving that you can stand on your head and drink a bottle of 7- UP. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this time. May God bless you and keep you.

Our sympathies on the death of your sister, Russell. Apparently, I just missed you when Vera Carter was at the HR nursing home; now, Frances has just emailed me that Pong is gone as well. If we didn’t have company coming, we would be there and maybe get to see you once more. It’s funny, but I never associated you with your teacher mom at CCHS. Kids’ minds work in strange ways 🙂 I do remember your sister well; a very nice person!! We are thinking of you and your family. xo
