Mass of Christian Burial: will be held Monday, October 18, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City

Rite of Committal: will be held Monday, October 18, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City

Vivian A. Jelinek, age 98, of Mercer Island, Washington formerly of Miles City, Montana passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at the Mission Healthcare at Bellevue, Washington.

Mrs. Jelinek was born March 24, 1906, at Clinton, Iowa, the middle child and daughter of Herman J. and Florence E. Holdgrafer. As a child in 1914, she moved with her parents, by train, to Miles City, and then on to Epsie, where they homesteaded and she went to grade school. In 1920 the family moved to Miles City where she graduated from Custer County High School in 1924. After high school she was employed at the First National Bank in Miles City. On August 1, 1928, she married Paul F. Jelinek in Miles City were they resided together for sixty-nine years. Mr. Jelinek died November 7, 1997. In 1998 she moved to Mercer Island to be closer to her children. She was a homemaker and in 1950 she began working at the Custer County Courthouse where she was a deputy county clerk and recorder from 1955 until her retirement in 1971. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Church while residing in Miles City. She was also a member of St. Anns Circle and did volunteer work at the Holy Rosary Hospital.

Mrs. Jelinek was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Jay Paul Jelinek in 2001, her grandson, Paul Robert (Rob) Reid in 1999, and her brother, Vincent Holdgrafer and sister Pat Oines. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Reid of Nashville, TN; her son, Bruce Jelinek of Kirkland, WA; her daughter-in-law, Miriam Jelinek of Mercer Island, WA; six grandchildren: J. Paul Jelinek, Jr. and wife Lisa of Medina, WA; Lorrie Jelinek of Bainbridge Island, WA; Rene Lester and husband Jimmy of Luverne, AL; Randy Reid and wife Lori of Brentwood, TN; Jane Harrison and her husband Jimmy of Mercer Island, WA; Carol Keyes and her husband Don Riddell of Bainbridge Island, WA; and ten great grandchildren: Jack Jelinek, Laura Lynn and Maggie Lester, Thomas and Elizabeth Reid, Jack and Annie Harrison, Devereux Keyes, and Ruby and Mary Grace Riddell. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.

Visitation will be held Sunday at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. A Vigil service will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2004 at 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 18, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City. Rite of Committal will follow in the family lot of the Calvary Cemetery.
