Interment: will follow at the Chelsea Cemetery in Poplar.
Vonnie Rae Brown Hi-han Maza-wi (Iron Owl Woman), 46, of Wolf Point, MT passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at the Poplar Hospital.
Vonnie, the daughter of Ronald H. Brown and Vina Grey Bear, was born June 29, 1964 in Poplar, MT. She attended school in Poplar, Wolf Point, Great Falls, MT, Bismarck, ND, Weiser, ID and Brigham City, UT. She received her G.E.D. in 1995. Vonnie was employed at A&S Industries and over the years worked in various positions including, a seismograph flagger, housekeeping, cook, and beanery. She lived in Denver and Grad Junction, CO, and Grand Forks, ND before moving home to Wolf Point. She had a sense of humor and liked to tease; she would give many of her family and friends nicknames, some may remember theirs. She enjoyed visiting family and friends, going to powwows and having cook outs. Vonnie had a big heart and was very generous, she would help out with what, where and when ever she could.
She is survived by her daughter, Galyn Rosie Brown of Wolf Point; grandchildren, Trueth and Marquis of Wolf Point; son, Nathaniel W Emerson of Tulsa, OK; sisters, Valerie (Duane) Black Dog and family, Vina, Valeen, Maryanna, Davy, Delaine, Duane II, and Delyla all of Fort Kipp, MT, and Denise Longtree and family, Kristen, Kaylor, Kelcie, David, Austin, and Deneya all of Poplar, MT; brothers, Lance Brown and Delano Longtree of Poplar, MT; aunts, Rita Brown of Wolf Point, Phyllis (Robert) Olson, Judy (Dean) Grey Bear and Ava Old Rock Martin all of Poplar, Lorraine Grey Bear and family of Fort Totten, ND, and Vivian Grey Bear and family of Anchorage, AK; grandmothers, Germain Brady of New Town, ND, Delilah Johnson and family of Connel, WA; adopted brother, Jim (Irene) Flynn; and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren. Other families include, Running Bears, Morales, Jone's, Long Hairs, Red Elks, Pipes, Red Thunders, War Clubs, and Shields.
Vonnie is preceded in death by her parents, Ronald Hugh Brown and Vina Mae Grey Bear; brother, Ronald W. Brown; step-father, Roy J. Longtree; maternal grandparents, Abraham Abel Grey Bear and Lottie Old Rock Martin; paternal grandparents, Joseph Brown Sr. and Ruth Running Bear; uncles, Joseph Gi-Gi Brown Jr., Melvin D. Grey Bear Sr., Abraham Judge Grey Bear Sr., Oral Grey Bear Sr., Galen Grey Bear, and Floyd Youngman; aunts, Coretta R. Grey Bear, Wanda Brown; cousins, Laurie Jo and Tanya Grey Bear-Youngman, and Brent Weston; grandchildren, Janeya Royal Lizotte, Memory Rose Youngman, and Talon Skye Grey Bear.
An evening service will be held 8 p.m. Sunday, January 30 at the Poplar Cultural Center. Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 31 also at the Poplar Cultural Center. Interment will follow at the Chelsea Cemetery in Poplar. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
