On Friday, November 3rd, 2023, Vydell Otto Yellowrobe lost his life suddenly and far too early.
Vydell Otto Yellowrobe, Hotoa-neeotse, Buffalo Stands, (his Northern Cheyenne Indian name,) was born July 19th, 2006 in Crow Agency, MT to parents Desirae Dumont and Jarvis J. Yellowrobe, Jr. Vydell spent the first year of his life in the Dunmore area before his family moved to Hardin. Vydell’s grandpa, Albert Birdinground, instilled a love of the land, horsemanship and hard-workin’ country boy ethics in his grandson from a young age. Vydell could often be seen riding grandpa’s shetland with a content grin on his sweet face. Vydell grew up and attended school mainly in Hardin where he was currently a Senior in high school. The Yellowrobe children suffered the loss of their beloved mother in 2019 turning their worlds upside down. Vydell and his sister, Arissa, were still residing at their family home at the time and endured multiple fluctuations in their situation during the next few years. Throughout the challenges and hardships, the sibling’s love for each other paved the paths they followed through their darkest days.
In 2021, Vydell attended Woodward Academy in Iowa where he flourished in academics, played football and enjoyed being a young man in a new land. He had recently mentioned to his auntie Brandi that after graduation he was considering returning to Iowa as he liked the area and the people he had spent time with. Vydell’s latest plans included applying with the job Corp to study auto mechanics. One of his long-term goals was to open his own mechanic’s shop with his friend. Vydell was never short on dreams and aspirations. He always wanted to explore more, experience new adventures and live life to the fullest always meeting it with his greatest potential.
Vydell welcomed those he cared for to be his family regardless of relation. He was a loyal son, brother, cousin, uncle, and grandson to many. Doors were opened to the pleasure of his company and hearts often adopted him as their own. Vydell carried those unique qualities that drew you in and made you feel a little more complete to have him in your life. He encompassed devotion to his friends and family and stood solidly by those he chose as his.
Everyone who knew Vydell knew he was fearless. He enjoyed the thrill of danger and facing down challenges from the get-go whether clinging for dear life to the back of a sheep as a little guy, trying to execute the most difficult moves on his skateboard or balancing on the back of a bucking bull. His smile was bright and endlessly contagious. Vydell was the youngest child in the family and yet often the glue that held everyone bonded strongly together. Vydell held a special place in his heart for children. He adored his little cousins and was known for his tenderness toward them. He was always able to make them laugh and was energized by their smiles. His heart was noble, his love generous, and you knew you were cherished when you were near him.

I met Vydell as a counselor and he always had the biggest smile. The horses loved him and he was telling me about how he loved to ride bareback. I was lucky enough to see him and another boy get to do this. As soon as they got on the horse, that horse was connected to what they were going to do. The horse took off so fast and you could tell they were both so happy and free! What an excellent rider he was 🖤🐎 I will remember Vydell fondly and am blessed to have crossed paths with him. Sending love to everyone and he will message you and I am sure he already has. My tears are for you all and I will smile when I think of his kind soul.
