Walter Louis Baird Jr., age 88, of Mills, Wyoming passed away on July 30, 2022 at Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper, Wyoming due to a long illness.
Walter was born on October 11, 1933, the son of Walter Louis and Betty (Root) Baird in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. Walt grew up in Belle Fourche and attended school there. For a short time, he went to Hiawatha to be with his father and his grandma. He moved to Mills, Wyoming and drove truck and had numerous other jobs. Around 1973 Walt was hired on at the Shirley Basin Uranium Mine where he worked until his retirement. Walt was a lifetime Harley Davidson Motorcycle rider and belonged to many clubs. Walt was a gifted mechanic and could fix most anything.
Walt is survived by a nephew Billy of Kansas and three nieces Sandy Lee (Tim) Hatcher of Miles City, MT; Marjorie Ann Hardy and Anna Marie of Kansas; stepdaughter Virginia (Ron) Moore of Mills, WY and numerous step and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Virginia Baird, two brothers: Glenn Beechum and Charlie Baird, his parents, his stepmother (Clara Jean) and a niece Christina Fae Baird.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Custer County Cemetery in Miles City. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 9, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at the Freden Park in Mills, Wyoming. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.stevensonandsons.com.
