Graveside service for Wanda E. Jacobs age 83, of Gillette will be held on 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette, with Father Jim Heiser of the St. Matthews Catholic Church officiating. Visitation will be held from 3-7, Monday, August 29, 2005 at the Stevenson Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette, Wyoming. Mrs. Jacobs died Thursday, August 25, 2005 at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital from complications of a stroke.
Wanda Eldora Jacobs was born on February 20, 1922 in Derby, Kansas. She was raised and educated in Kansas, graduating from Cassidy High School in 1940. Wanda was the captain of the basketball team and played clarinet during her high school years. During World War II, Wanda worked for the Boeing Company as a welder in Wichita, Kansas. In the early 1990s Mrs. Jacobs moved to Gillette. Here she lived independently until moving in to her sons home in June. Wanda enjoyed friendships made at the Senior Citizens Center and was active in a singing group there.
Mrs. Jacobs is survived by her two sons: Tom Jacobs of Tulsa, Oklahoma and David Jacobs of Gillette, Wyoming; two brothers: Glen Mitchell, a Pearl Harbor survivor, of Wichita, Kamsas and Charles Mitchell of Hasty, Colorado; two sisters: Betty Pierce; , Sedgwick, Kansas and Barbara Jo Young of Belleville, Kansas; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
