Rev. Wayne A. Boyd Sr.Zitkana Wakan (Holy Bird)Our precious husband, dad and papa, Rev. Wayne A. Boyd Sr., age 69, was called home on Wednesday, December 19, 2007.
Dad was born March 28, 1938 to Florence D. Iron Ring, and James A. Boyd in Poplar, Montana. Dads childhood years were reared in Snohomish, Washington with his grandparents, William & Meta Boyd. He returned to northeastern Montana in his early teens. Dad met and married his first and only love, Dolly M. Red Boy on January 19, 1957, in Plentywood, Montana. They recently celebrated their 50th golden wedding anniversary. From this union were born nine children.
While dad held numerous jobs in his lifetime, his greatest passion was his calling to preaching, singing, and ministry. He served on church and bible college boards, and helped establish the Convocation of Christian Indian Leaders. Dad attended Berean Bible College, receiving his ordination/credentials with the Assemblies of God Fellowship. Rev. Boyds calling allowed him, his wife, and family, known as The Boyd Indian Family Ministries, to travel across America and Canada, for more than twenty-plus years, ministering in word and music on many Indian reservations and in many churches.
Dad took great pleasure in his heritage as the oldest grandson of Chief Santee Iron Ring, receiving his Indian name Zitkana Wakan, given to him by his mother, in the traditional Sioux way. Dads love for music and playing his guitar would always find him encouraging the hearts and lives of people everywhere. He called the Buckhorn caf his mission field. His musical gifts, talents and leadership abilities, brought his family to the highest levels of reaching the lost for Christ. Dad was truly an evangelist.
Some of dads highlights were recording professionally in Nashville, TN with gospel music legend/producer, Henry Slaughter. He also enjoyed entertaining in his home legendary country gospel singers such as T. Texas Tyler; Harry Yates, brother-in-law of Johnny Cash; Hank Snow Jr.; the Long Gospel Team; the Klaudt Indian Family; the Lowell Lundstrom Ministries; the Antone Indian Family; the Batiste Indian Family; the Smith Indian Family; Christian rock band Petra; and many, many others.
Dads hobbies were his bead shop; show-casing artifacts of his late grandfather, Chief Santee Iron Ring; participating in gun shows with his sons; sitting on the Fort Peck Assiniboine/Sioux Historical Society committee; and attending his grandchildrens social and athletic events.
Our precious dad is survived by his loving wife Dolly; his sons, Wayne (Jr.) Boyd & (Mia), of Pryor, MT; Samson Boyd & (Ann) of Nashville, TN; and Habakkuk and Maschil Boyd of Poplar.
