On Monday, October 14, 2019 Wayne Lee Shaw was released from the grips of Alzheimer’s disease. He passed peacefully with family by his side.
Wayne was born September 18, 1933 to Harold and Helen (Roseler) Shaw in Holt County, O’Neil, NE. He was the oldest of 3 children. Wayne graduated from Rock County High in Bassett, NE in 1952 with the assistance of his dear cousin, Jean (Shaw) Mason. He joined the army in 1953 at the end of the Korean War where he learned his extended mechanic skills. He returned home to help his father on the JO Ranch in Feb. 1956. After the sale of the JO bar, Wayne, father (Harold) and brother (Dick) moved their families to WY to the 77 ranch next to Devils Tower in 1961. Wayne loved to work, enjoyed trucking in his red trucks and was gifted as a mechanic. He married Janelle Arlene Potratz on June 24, 1956. They had 3 children – Kyle Wayne, Jackie Lynn and Jeffrey Walter. Janelle died on November 14, 1964. Wayne then married Helen Wells on November 18, 1966 and they had Cody Gayle, his 4th child.
After the sale of the 77 Ranch in 1973, Wayne’s family moved to Miles City, MT to the Moon Creek area and created the 40 Bar Ranch in 1974. Later, he moved to Kinsey, MT to farm to supply feed for the ranch. Wayne and Helen divorced in 1993. Wayne married his 3rd wife, Jane (Morton) McMiller on July 24, 1999. Together they enjoyed traveling together and the most memorable trip being the last trip they took together to Pearl Harbor in 2014. They celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary this past July. Wayne’s last years were spent at Canyon Creek Memory Care in Billings, MT. He was loved and cared for by the staff. He was referred to as “Cowboy” and always needed his walker, “The Grey Stallion”. He enjoyed visits from his family at his time at Canyon Creek including weekly visits from Jane and his daughter Jackie. During his time in Billings, his granddaughter Marlee made sure his lawn mowing duties were taken care of while he was gone. In August of 2019, he moved to the VA Community Living Center in Miles City on Hospice Care.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Jane, children – Kyle (Gail) Shaw, Jeff (Deb) Shaw and Cody (Tynie) Shaw, and Jackie (Doug) Armstrong. His grandchildren – Kyla (Josh) Sanders, Jay (Edyna) Shaw, Kristi (Cedar) Jeffers, Marlee Shaw (Casey Clauson), Tyrell (Jillian) Gentry, Savannah (Jacob) Weichel and Dallas Shaw. He had 12 great grandchildren – Jess, Jake, Jolie, Jarret and Justin Sanders, Cadence Jo and Paige Shaw, Trevor, Ted and Lucy Jeffers, and Rylin and Bodin Gentry. Also, his sister Linda Shaw of Red Lodge, MT; sister-in-law Myra Shaw of Newcastle, WY as well as several nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Janelle (Potratz) Shaw (wife), Richard (Dick) Shaw (brother) and Helen Frances Shaw (niece)

To the Shaw family. We learned of Waynes passing. We are sorry to hear about your dad. We remember the visits we had working with him while trucking hauling mint root and driving beet truck. The last time we saw and visited with him he seamed very happy. He was truly one of a kind. We hope you hang onto the memories of this cowboy, trucker and farm & rancher. May his memories live on.

When someone we love fall asleep in death the memories we have of them become our treasure. So take time to grieve and find comfort in knowing that God is near all those calling on Him. Psalms 145:18. My condolences to the family.
