Interment: Custer County Cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post #1579.
Wayne Mason Olson, age 90, of Miles City passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the Eastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive.
Wayne was born in Mildred, Montana on July 18, 1918, the son of John and Ruby (Mason) Olson. Wayne was raised and attended schools in Mildred where he graduated high school. After his schooling, he tended bar at Youngs Bar & Cafe in Terry. Wayne served with the US Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. After his discharge from the service, he returned to Terry and worked at Youngs before moving to Miles City. Wayne worked at the Montana Bar for George Kenney. He was married in 1947, and from this union two daughters were born, Janice and Beverly. Wayne owned and operated the Montana Bar along with Jim Burnett and Dave Parent until 1977 and then at the Elks Club as bar manager and bartender until his retirement at the age of 65. He has remained in Miles City with his long time companion, Norma Bond of thirty-eight years.
Wayne was very active in the Al Bedoo Shrine and served faithfully in the hospital corps, volunteering at the VA Medical Center with Masonic Services and was active in the outreach clinic for the crippled children going to various Shrine hospitals. Wayne was honored asShriner of the Year in 1994. He was also a member of the Masons and the Elks in Miles City. Wayne and Norma enjoyed traveling and made a trip to Nashville, TN which they enjoyed very much.
Wayne is survived by Norma Bond of Miles City, MT; two daughters: Janice Pearson of Pasco, WA and Beverly (Gary) Preston of Gillette, WY; two brothers: Robert (Helen) Olson of Laurel, MT and Dale (Luella) Olson of Phoenix, AZ; a sister, Jean (Kermit) Torve of Rapid City, SD; a grandson, Brandon (Kari) Preston of Gillette, WY, two great grandsons Cameron andBraydon and sixteen nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: John Jr. and Vern; and three sisters: Dorothy Gray, Phyllis Bush and Fern Matoosic.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 with the family receiving friends from 4:006:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Custer County Cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post #1579.
