Wayne Smith, age 76, of Miles City.

Wayne G. Smith, age 76 of Miles City, passed away on December 27, 2018 at Holy Rosary Healthcare in Miles City.

Wayne was born in Miles City, MT on August 8, 1942. He was the son of Donald E. and Donna L. (Howell) Smith. He joined the United States Marine Corps on July 24, 1961 and served his country proudly for four years earning his GED. He was honorably discharged on August 12, 1965. Wayne married Kathryn Reardon on August 6, 1966 in Gillette, WY. Together they raised two children: Kristine and Cynthia. Wayne started working for the Milwaukee Railroad in 1968 and retired from Transisco in 2002. Over the years, Wayne and Kathryn enjoyed traveling all over the United States. He was an avid gardener and spent many hours raising flowers. Anytime he had a “techy” question he would call his grandson Brandon to come save the day. Wayne truly loved his family and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren was most important to him. Wayne will be forever loved and missed by all who knew him.

Wayne is survived by his two daughters: Kristine (Darwin) Thrams of Miles City and Cynthia Smith of Rapid City, SD; his grandson “tech advisor” Brandon Thrams of Miles City; brother Matthew (Linda Hodgson) Smith of Miles City; sister-in-laws, Bonnie Smith and Phyllis (Homer) Phillips of Rapid City, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Kathyrn and brother Doug.

First met Wayne when we worked on the Milwaukee railroad together and he had been a friend ever since. Never saw him that he didn’t have a smile for everyone even during sad times. Enjoyed visiting with him when we met him on his early morning walks. He will be missed.

I will miss Wayne forever. Like Doug, I always took his soft spoken ways and friendliness for granted. As most of us now care to admit, we all wish we would have planned better and enjoyed more QUALITY time with both.
The joy………………real JOY………..however, is we all gain time with both of these wonderful men in Heaven forever and ever and ever and ever. And, that is a very long time.
