Welcome J. Curtiss, age 76, of Circle, MT died May 5, 2004 at his home. He was born in McCone County on August 16, 1927, to Malcolm and Ellen Curtiss.
He attended grade school in Lindsay and graduated from Circle High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1947. He then returned to Circle and married Ella Lingle on October 29, 1948 in Wolf Point. Welcome worked for a farmer until 1950 when they moved on to their own farm where he lived ever since. He loved farming and ranching. He also worked for Shell Oil for about 12 years. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the V.F.W. and was a 4-H leader. His family was his greatest enjoyment and each grandchild and great-grandchild held a special place in his heart. Fishing and playing cards were other enjoyments for Welcome.
Welcome is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ella of the family farm; three sons, Darell and Questa, Danny and Laurie both of Circle, and Ed and Deanna of Glendive; three daughters, Beverly and Dave Edwards of Lindsay, Marilyn Mitchell and Sally and Ralph Lehner, both of Circle. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren: Diana and Shawn Monson, Justin Curtiss, Cari Curtiss, Karla and Ian Huseby, Chuck and Audrey Kerr, Melissa and Chris Gaub, Eric Edwards, Jared Edwards, Brian Edwards, Zane Curtiss, Zach Curtiss, Meccala and Kory Draper, Melita Mitchell, Mindy Mitchell and Rebel Nelson, Jesse Mitchell, Taryn Lehner, Todd Lehner, Tolby Lehner, Trent Lehner, Jack Curtiss, Clay Curtiss; 11 great-grandchildren: Alyssa and Jordan Monson, Cameron and Maia and Ella Rose Curtiss, Tiffani, Collin and Jaqcee Huseby, Julie Kerr, Dawson and Kaitlyn Gaub.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, May 9, 2004 at the Senior Citizen Center in Circle at 2:30 p.m. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
