Internment: will follow in the Custer County Cemetery
Wes Wells, age 75, of Miles City passed away on Friday, August 08, 2003 at his home in Miles City following a courageous battle with cancer.
Wes was born on March 10, 1928 in a dugout home on the family homestead in Mizpah, Montana. He was the 6th child born to Arvil Ole and Elsie Releif (Haskins) Wells. Wes attended Strevell Creek School from age 5 until age 10. His mother died when he was 6 and his father died when he was 10. Wes lived with his brothers, Les and Vories Wells, for 2 years, and attended Sutherland Country School and Lincoln School completing the 8th grade at age 12. He lived with his sister Naomia, for 1 year, in Colorado while his brothers were in the military service. He then lived with his Aunt Ernie and Uncle Zack Jay, at Medicine Creek, Wyoming, attending school in Hulett, Wyoming. At the age of 15, he returned to Miles City and attended Custer County High School. In 1948, he married Evelyn Wheeler. They had five children. Wes broke horses, did ranch work for a few years, then worked construction, until starting his own mechanic and field repair business, which he ran up until the time of his death. On December 21, 1985, he married Mary Ann Boyum at Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City.
Wes loved to work, hunt, read, dance, and play the guitar. Wes enjoyed nature and attending the family reunions every year in Hulett, Wyoming and most of all spending time with his family. Wes was a nurturing father in helping to raise LaRae Tangen Matzen and grandson Garrett Hogue, who he also taught to hunt.
Wes is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Wells of Miles City, MT; four daughters: Arlene Crowfoot of Miles City, MT; Teeny McMann of Dayton, WA; Diana Carlson and her husband Jim of Grand Forks, ND; Glapha Cox and her husband Robert of Idaho Falls, ID; three step-daughters: Melinda Hogue of St. George, KS; Kelly Hedge and her husband Ken of Littleton, CO; and LaRae Matzen and her husband Bill of Miles City, MT; thirteen grandchildren: Charlene Whitcher, Sheri Cain and her husband Ryan, Scott and Brian Meyers, Richard Cox, Rachael Cox, Diana Cox, Jerri Marie and Garrett Hogue, Erin and Lauren Hedge, Katelyn Matzen and Daniel Cox; four great grandchildren: Steven and Laci Kirkland, Sidney Baldonado, Dylan Cain; and a special friend, Natasha Leidholt. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Wesley Earl Wells, three brothers: Robin Wells, Voris Wells, and Hough Leslie Wells, and two sisters: Naomie Coldwell and Mary J. Knopp.
Services will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Custer County Cemetery.
