He was born November 22, 1958 in Great Falls, MT. The family moved to Helena in 1961 and he graduated from Capitol High in 1977. The class of 1977 was the first class to go all four years as Capitol High Graduates. After graduation he worked at his fathers business, Davis Business Machines until he decided cycles were more exciting. He worked at Helena Cycle Center until 1987 when he and Scott Kottas purchased Rileys Restaurant and Bar at Canyon Ferry. He sold his share of Rileys to Scott and later went to work for Town Pump Inc. He worked his way up to Manager and at the time of his death he was manager of the Town Pump Food Store on 116 Lane Ave. East Helena. When he started managing the East Helena Store he was nicknamed Papa Smurf by his employees. The employees considered Wes as a great friend as well as a manager.
Wes married Kimmy OConnell in 1982 and they were later divorced. On August 23, 2002 he married Dawn Gilbreath who succeeds him. Wes was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and sportsman. His real love was anything that had wheels and a motor such as snowmobiles, cycling and four wheeling. His first motor cycle was a Honda 90 and then he graduated to a 125 cc Puch. Through the years he has collected numerous awards and trophies for his skill as a professional Moto Cross Racer. He loved working with the young people, especially those that were interested in the sport of cycling. He was known to most as Teddy Bear. He was a member of the Last Chance Stampede Committee for several years.
He was preceded in death by his step mother Judith Ann Davis and a brother Darrell.
He is survived by his wife Dawn; step son, Jorey Johns; mother, Avis Dickens; father, Loren Davis; brothers, Joel, Brett and step brothers, Scott and Mark McHugh, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.
Visitation will begin 10:00 a.m. Sunday with the family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 17 at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church. A reception will follow in the social center of the church.
