Wesley Wolfblack, Hotoaso (Small Buffalo), was born February 8,1954 to Pearl Teeth and James Wolfblack in Crow Agency, Montana. Wesley’s favorite saying was, “I will never give up!” and fought to the very end of his life. Wesley finally succumbed to his illness Wednesday, January 2, 2019 around 8;00 p.m. Wesley left this world peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by family members.
Wesley grew up on the homestead near the white corrals east of Busby. He often spoke up of the old days with cousin brothers, Corlette, “coco” teeth and Mervin Morrison. Both whom he spent most of his youth riding horseback and hunting.
Wesley graduated from Busby High School, taught English at Busby school for a short time before enlisting in the Army on April 24, 1973. He had trained as an Airborne Paratrooper. Wesley was injured in an accident to his back. It was then that he acquired his will to never give up mentality. Wesley was discharged from the military on December 17, 1973.
Wesley would often share about his all-around life experiences and working skills as a truck driver, working the oil-rigs, being a cowboy and was proud of his education accomplishments. “Uncle Wes”, was quite the great storyteller of all his many life adventures. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the Cheyenne way of life.
Wesley lived in Ethete Wyoming for many years with Arlene Brown. And made his home with her in Ethete. From that relationship, he adopted Arlene’s son, Patrick. When Arlene preceded Wes in death, Wesley returned home to Busby Montana.
Wesley often traveled to Hot Springs Veterans Medical Center. While there he was employed at the Crazy Horse Monument.
Wesley came home to Busby and during the summer of 2012 he met Norma “Tuma” LaMere. They made their home in Busby.
Wesley spent his last remaining years living with his brother, Clyde in the family home until his illness led him to the Sheridan VA medical unit.
Wesley is survived by his brother, Clyde (Paula); children, Trey (Chreas), Leila, and Alijah of the family home; sister, Edith (Henry) Firebear, their children and their grandchildren of Busby.
His parents, Pearl and James Wolfblack; sisters, Jamesey, Anna, Gloria and Rosylyn; brother, Kenneth; nieces, Stormy, Crystal and Roberta; his nephews, James, Clayton Dion Wolfblack, Austin, John, and grandson, Eli Wolfblack preceded Wesley in death.

Wesley and I were brothers, going to school in Busby he and Austin Two Moons, Jr. would be waiting for me as the bus pulled in at Busby dorms, we would then head to the Busby store to buy snacks. We ran crosscountry together, played basketball and ran track. In the evenings they’d come after me at the dorms to go to movies or dances, we always had a good time. At basketball games, movies or dances we’d be sitting together laughing and playing jokes on classmates, especially the girls; Verda Kills On Top, Maria Russell, Terra Bear Quiver, Esther Spotted Wolf, Darlene American Horse and many others. Those were such special times. In Cannon Ball, ND, I ran into Wesley there and we worked for a rancher/farmer the summer of 1977, that was the last I saw of him as I moved to Seattle, Washington. I will miss you my friend, and all the times we had in Busby….until we meet again. Kenny Shields – Poplar, Montana and Busby Eagle.

My deepest condolences to entire Wolfblack family. It has been many years since I’ve been back home, but I have many memories of growing up practically next door to your family. May Creator cover you all with peace, and love.
