In Loving Memory of Wilbert Chief Jackson Walking Growing Red Bear

Our beloved Chief passed away on July 5, 2006. He passed away while surrounded by his family at Saint Vincent hospital in Billings, Montana. He left while his family read him scriptures from the Holy Bible. Wilbert was loved by everyone and he enjoyed all company. Friends say he was a loving person.

Wilbert was born on March 8, 1955 in Poplar, Montana. He attended school in Frazer. He was a Headstart bus driver for many years, he also seismographed on many states and ended in Texas. He then worked for different ranches in the surrounding areas. Wild Horse Racing was what Wilbert loved to do. He rode for the Pipes in 1974, following in his dads footsteps. In 1975 he started Wild Horse Racing and mugged his last horse in 2003. Although retired ten times, he was always there if needed for his favorites, Milo and Indian Jackson coaching, cussing, and to give a lending hand. Win or lose, he enjoyed it. Now children and grandchildren are Wild Horse Racing. It's in the blood.

Wilbert Wild Horse raced professionally in all of Montana, North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Washington, and Wyoming. He also raced in several southwest states, including New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and California. He practiced his traditional sun dances for four years, and was also a devout Catholic. He will always be missed by everyone who knew him.

Wilbert is survived by his mother, Mary B. Hayes, brothers, Clarence (Allison) Jackson, and Emerson Jackson, all of Frazer, MT, sisters, Mary Sue (Reggie) Jackson of Frazer, Wilberta (Marvin) Toavs of Wolf Point. In 1973 he married Frances Hotomanie. They had five children: Wilbert Willie (Kelly) Jackson, Carlene Jackson, Michael Mikey Jackson, all of Frazer, Mary (Grant) Stafne of Fort Belknap, and Shannon (Roland) Nez of Havre. He also fathered two children with Cynthia Hall: James W. Jackson, and Charmaine Jackson, both of Frazer. Wilbert is also survived by Aaron (Chelsea) Jackson of Frazer, his Godchild, Kayla Toavs of Wolf Point, and his special aunt, Ann Helgeson and uncle, Henry Prince Brockie, both of Hays, MT. He has twenty grandchildren, with two more on the way, and numerous nieces and nephews. He loved his family, and they loved him. Wilbert Chief Jackson was preceded in death by his father, Wilbert F. Jackson, brothers, Stonewall and James, sister, Toni, Maternal grandparents, Clarence and Mary Fox Brockie, paternal grandparents, Stonewall and Susan Fisk Jackson, and stepfather August Hayes.
