In Memory Of

Wilfred King

Vigil service: Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City at 6:00 pm.

Funeral mass: Friday, September 14, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Rite of committal: will follow in the Eastern Montana Veterans Cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post 1579.

Wilfrid Willy John King, age 82, of Miles

Willy was born on May 7, 1925 in Milesto Theodore and Helen King. He attended Sacred Heart Elementary and High School where he played six-man football and basketball. He graduated high school in 1942 at the age of 16. After working for the Milwaukee Railroad for a year, he joined the United States Army. He served as a sergeant with the 42nd Infantry, Rainbow Division in the European and African Theaters. Willy received the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in action on January 25, 1945. He was honorably discharged April 20, 1946.He moved to Billings to be closer to his girl, soon to be wife, Connie Croy. Willy and Connie were married in St. Patricks Cathedral, Billings, on April 26, 1946. They lived in Billings until 1949 when they moved to Miles

During his working years he worked as a salesman for Charlie Hatch, co-owned K and M Auto Parts, worked for Deluxe Motors, Love Motors and Hardesty Real Estate. He retired in 1995.Willy was the first president to the Sacred Heart Roundtable. He coached little league baseball; he belonged to the bowling league and the pool league. He won several broomstick tournaments. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends.

Willy is survived by his wife of 60 years, sons: Patrick, Michael (Suzanne) and Don (Deb), daughters: Christine (Dave) Sullivan, and Camille (Dwayne) Rude, nine grandchildren and night great-grandchildren, and his sister Colleen Portwine.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and one son.
