William J. Barrett, Bill, lifelong Augusta rancher, died on July 6, 2010 in Helena surrounded by his family.
His memorial will be held at noon on Saturday, July 10 at the Augusta Youth Center followed by his favorite meal, meat and potatoes.Bill was born on January 11, 1917 in Choteau, Montana. He was a graduate of Augusta High School and attended Montana State University. He married Jean Haws on January 12, 1941 in Great Falls. The couple took up residence at their Flat Creek Ranch near Augusta, homesteaded by Bills grandparents in the 1880s. Bill served as a member of the Board of Directors and as President of the Montana Production Credit Association. He was a member of Masonic Lodge Augusta #54 A.F. & A.M., Algeria Shrine Temple, and Oder of Eastern Star. Bill married Jean Fallan on July 22, 1984 in Helena, Montana.
Bill was preceded in death by his first wife in 1982 and two brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Jean, of Helena; sons and daughters-in-law, Dave and Jackie of Augusta, Ed and Mary of Helena, and Joe and Maggie of Augusta; six grandchildren, Shelley, Tina, Kerri, Julie, Will, and Bonnie; and three sisters, Pauline, Myrte, and Bea. He is also survived by three step daughters and ten great grandchildren.
The family expresses their appreciation to the staff of the Masonic Home for the loving care they gave Dad this past year. Our heartfelt gratitude also goes to Dana Hillyer whose medical expertise, compassion and dedication made a difference to all of us. We also thank friends and family for their kind words and support. We will remember Bills statement that the love of family and friends helps us through lifes tough times.
