William P. Fitterer, age 85, of Forsyth passed away on Thursday November 4, 2010 at Grand Park Vintage Suites in Billings, MT.
William was born on November 29, 1924 in Mandan, ND to Peter and Monica (Loran) Fitterer. He was raised and attended schools in Mandan graduating from high school there.He joined the Navy in 1942 serving as an Aviation Machinists Mate Second Class in the South Seas. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946 he went to work on the railroad as a switchman/conductor. He retired from the railroad in 1986 after 40 years of service.
Bill and Vivian were married on June 30, 1947 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mandan, ND. Shortly after they were married they moved to Forsyth, MT where they worked and raised their family. They moved to Billings in 2002 and resided at Grand Park Vintage Suites.After retiring Bill enjoyed spending time on White Earth Lake. He enjoyed playing cards, having coffee with his close friends and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Catholic Church, Elks, UTU, and was secretary/treasurer of the Forsyth Volunteer Fire Department for thirty years.
In addition to his wife Vivian he was preceded in death by his brother Roy, sister Rosemary and daughter-in-law Sandy.
He is survived by his five children; Kathy (Lynn) Clendenen, Cassie (Harry) Manolopoulos, David (Marsha) Fitterer, Rick Fitterer and friend Maureen and Lynn Fitterer and friend Patty; grandchildren Christopher, Joanna (Graem), Melodie, Charissa, Tessa, Travis (Maria), Shelly, J. Dee, Cody, Casey, Colin (Miranda) and Lynde; great-grandchildren Natalia, Marina, Mac, Macy, Sophia, Carson, Richard and Aspen.
Visitation will be held on Sunday November 7, 2010 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm with family receiving friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm in the chapel of Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home of Forsyth. Funeral services will be held on Monday November 8, 2010 at 11:00am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Forsyth with burial following in the family plot of the Forsyth Cemetery.
