William Gluyas, age 79, of Miles City passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at his home in Miles City.
William was born on January 7, 1930 in Miles City, Montana the son of Richard J. and Helen E. Gluyas. He attended schools in Miles City and graduated from Custer County High School. William joined the US Air Force in January of 1950 during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in October of 1953. He was employed in the clerical department of the Milwaukee Railroad for 20 years. He transferred to the Burlington Northern Railroad when the Milwaukee closed down operation and was employed as a telegrapher and clerk until retiring in June of 1990 with 30 years of railroad service. William and Dolores K. Minkoff were married August 4, 1972 in Miles City. William enjoyed all sports as a spectator and had participated in baseball, golf, bowling and fishing. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.
William was preceded in death by his wife in 1999 and also his parents and two brothers, Richard and Robert. Survivors include one son, David Gluyas of Worland, WY; three stepsons: Richard Minkoff and his wife Connie of Billings, MT; Allen Minkoff of Miles City, MT; Dan Minkoff and his wife Karen of Chariton, IA; and two step-daughters: Mary Jean Shober and her husband Dennis of Helena; and Linda Maxwell and her husband Tom of Lewistown, MT; a sister, Sarah Taylor of Miles City and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Custer County Cemetery in Miles City with full military honors provided by VFW Post # 1579. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. to proceed to the cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to: Childrens Oncology Camp Foundation Camp Mak-A-Dream, P.O.
