William Albert Haun (Bill) age 80, passed away December 22, 2007 at the Gallatin Rest Home in Bozeman, Mt.
Bill was born on July 23, 1927 in Lewistown Mt. He was 2nd to the youngest of 8 children born to Mary (Stevenson) Haun and Carl Haun. He attended grade school in Cohagen and spent his childhood growing up on the family homestead in Winifred Mt. The family left Winifred and moved to The Kinsey Irrigation Project just north of Miles City. He helped on the farm until he entered the US Navy at the ripe old age of 17 during World War II. He did his basic training at Farragut, Idaho on Lake Pend Oreille and served most of his military service aboard ship in the Orient. He received his GED for High School while in the military.
After returning home from the Navy, he met the love of his life, Gladys Patrick, from Miles City. They were married, April 4, 1948. Bill was a Lineman and an electrician by trade, but he loved his farm background and always talked of wanting to go back to farming. He retired from the Department of Energy in Casper, Wyoming in 1987.
He was also an avid fisherman, inventor, and rock hound. He was loved for his sense of humor, whether it was playing tricks on his fellow workers, telling tall tales, entertaining nieces and nephews, or poking fun at himself. He was always the life of the party or any gathering of two or more people.
He is survived by a daughter, Gayle Watts and her husband Myles of Bozeman, Mt., a son, Harvey Haun of Casper, WY. Daughter-in-law, Lynn Haun of Bremerton, WA: four grandchildren: Alexys Haun Steiks (Jeff), Brandon Haun (Chrissy), Jade Watts, and Kimi Watts. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters (Mary Joe, Juanita, and Charlotte) and 3 brothers, (Russell, Dick, and Jack), his oldest son, William Joe Haun, and one grandchild, Quentin Watts.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Custer County Cemetery in Miles City with full military honors. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements.
